Although Android is already fifteen years old, its interface has hardly changed in all that time; and for good reason. For most people, it’s a familiar, easy-to-use interface, and the burden of experimentation usually falls on brands and their levels of customization.
Now, HONOR has just introduced an addition to its layer that can change the way we use Android. It’s called Magic Portal, and it’s an application that runs in the background and normally doesn’t do anything and doesn’t even notice; but who is able to help us when we need it just dragging something to the edges
Magic Portal is a context-aware application, capable of take files and texts and transfer them to other applications so that they can use them as we wish; For example, if someone sends us an image of a product on WhatsApp, we can drag it to one of the sides and open it with an application like eBay to buy it.
HONOR’s “magic” app
To work, HONOR uses artificial intelligence, which analyzes the text and images that we select in any application to guess what we would like to do; Based on this, it shows a series of applications that can use this text or image for their own functions. Magic Portal is based on our personal preferences and the apps we use most to display these recommendations.
An impressive technical detail is that Magic Portal it works on our device and not in the cloud, even if it uses Artificial Intelligence; To do this, it takes advantage of the capabilities of the latest processors for this technology. This way you don’t need to connect to the Internet or wait for the results for the application to show us the applications that can use the image or text you have selected.
Apps compatible with Magic Portal include WhatsApp, Gmail, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Zoom, Google Maps, eBay and Google Maps, as well as browsers such as Firefox and Edge.
Without trying it in person, it seems like Magic Portal could change the way we consume content from one app in another. Until now we were forced to copy and paste the text, but with this function we can simply transfer it to another application and perform a search; like finding a place on Google Maps. It also allows you to search the content of images, either to find products or information about what appears in the photo.
Magic Portal is now available on HONOR models launched with MagicOS 8.0 based on Android 14, such as HONOR Magic6 Pro and HONOR Magic V2; The update for Android 14 will arrive next May.
