Fast charging technology allows us to recharge the battery of our mobile phones in a matter of minutes. Given its advantages, it is not surprising that more and more manufacturers are committed to integrating this technology into their devices. Currently, Many mobile phones have 100W or 120W fast chargingeven reaching 240W in some cases (like the Realme GT 3).
Of course, it is important to keep in mind that taking advantage of the benefits of fast charging we must use a charger with enough power: Otherwise we will not take full advantage of the fast charging of the mobile. If you are not sure if the chargers you have at home are compatible with the fast charging of your mobile, there is an application that can help you find out.
Ampere allows us to check if we are taking advantage of the fast charge of the mobile
We are talking about Ampere, an Android application available for free on Google Play that can help us Accurately measure the charging speed of any charger. The application is not only useful to know how fast our mobile phone really charges: we can also use it to know the maximum capacity of the battery, its health status or the number of battery cycles.
The performance of the application is simple. In order to check the loading speed, we will need to connect the mobile to the power supply and open the application. After a few seconds, Ampere will show us the milliamps at which we are charging, as well as the voltage of the charger used.
If the number at the top of the screen (milliamps) is displayed in green, it means that the device is charging properly. If it is displayed in negative and orange, it means that the mobile is using the battery (i.e. it is not charging). The latter will occur if your charger is not working or if you open the application without plugging your phone into the mains.
Before analyzing the information that the application shows us, it is important to be clear about the information related to the charging of our mobile phone, something that we can find in the device manual. For example, in the case of the Pixel 6 that I use to test the application, the battery offers fast charging at 30W.
It is advisable to test the application when the battery is almost empty, because that is when the phone is charged using the maximum power available. As we have commented, Ampere shows us the mA at which we charge The device at the top of the interface, while the voltage is shown below.
To calculate the power in watts (W), you need to multiply the voltage in volts (V) by the current in amperes (A). To do this, Convert mA to amps by dividing by one thousand. Once we have the equivalent value in amps (2050 mA/1000 = 2050 A), we can obtain the power. In my case, multiplying 3.997 volts (V) by 2.050 amps (A) gives me a value of 8.19385 watts (W).
By comparing this result with the information that appears on the charger we are using and in the specifications of our mobile phone, we will be able to know if the charger is suitable for charging the battery at the maximum possible speed. For example, if the Pixel 6 has a 30W fast charge and we charge at about 8W, it is better to use another charger.
Application accumulates more than 10 million downloads and has excellent ratings. Although it has some paid features (such as widgetsnotifications and alerts), the free version (with ads) is more than enough to learn more about charging our phones.
