This is the million dollar question, each type of consumer renews their phone at different times
Each user renews their mobile phone according to their needs. Some users update their smartphone every year, others buy a new phone every two or three years… In my case, for example, I have had an iPhone XR for no more and no less than 5 years. And it held up well. But it’s time to upgrade to the iPhone 16 lineup.
The truth is that Apple’s iPhone generally lasts much longer in the hands of its users
A study of Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) reflects how iPhone users continue to hold on to their phones for longer years compared to Android users, who update their phones more frequently.
The iPhone is the oldest smartphone on the planet
The trend has remained the same for several years. Apple users keep their mobile phones much longer than users of Samsung, Google, HUAWEI, Xiaomi and other Android manufacturers.
Only 34% of iOS users buy a new mobile phone within two years. While on his side, 54% of Android users buy new phones year after year.
CIRP data also indicates that 34% of iPhone users renew their phones every two to three years, while Android users who purchase a new phone during this period represent 22% of the entire community.
In contrast, 32% of iPhone consumers update their phone within more than 3 years. On the other hand, 21% of Android users can keep their phone for more than 3 years.
Why does iPhone last longer?
One of the main reasons for this big difference between iPhone and Android consumers, besides the poor performance of many low-end smartphones, is that in recent years Apple has focused its marketing strategy on refining the design of its mobile phones
Personally, I think the numbers can be somewhat misleading. It is true that there are a large number of brands on Android and each of them offers many low-cost alternatives, but I know many iPhone users who renew their cell phones year after year. But of course it costs a lot of money. Maybe it’s a matter of social status, maybe it’s just a whim. The fact is that there are also many Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra that can perform at the highest level for almost 7 years. And you? How often do you buy a new cell phone?
