Google is one of the companies making the most changes to its essential applications. We saw it recently with Google Maps and now we see it with Gmail for Android, a version in which it enables chats in personal accounts. In professional accounts, it’s been a few months.
For the moment, it is a function which is under test but which can already be activated from the parameters. We tell you how.
How to activate new chats in Gmail for Android
This new feature can be turned on and off the same way we do with the meeting tab, we already told you how it got removed from the interface if you were using it. In this case, to enable chats in Gmail, we have to follow a similar process.
- We open Gmail for Android.
- We go to the icon at the top left, the one with the three horizontal lines.
- We select the Settings option.
- We click on the Gmail account we want to use.
- We move on to the general section.
- We mark the option called Chat (early access).
When we do, the app will restart and we’ll have two new tabs at the bottom.
the first is the tab Discuss conventional, where we can write to our contacts. The second is that of Salas, where we can create groups to chat and even search for rooms that are already active.
As the option itself says, this is an Early Access feature right now and it may not be fully stable or appear to everyone. You need to install version 2021.03.07.364486182 of Gmail for Android, which is currently in the Play Store.
