One of the advantages of Android Auto is that You can read the messages they send us on WhatsApp, Signal, Messenger and similar applications, in addition to displaying them on the screen. All this without having to manipulate anything and/or supplemented by voice commands.
The problem is that sometimes you want to keep your messages private and not let Android Auto read them or show for the rest of the people who are in the car with you, which may not be entirely optimal. We offer three ways to avoid this.
Android Auto can expose us
Same as you WhatsApp on your mobile, you keep it private and you don’t shout out the messages that come in or show them to visitors, that’s more or less what Android Auto does. This is a feature, although it can sometimes feel more like a bug.
It’s not hard to imagine situations where Android Auto reading or showing you the messages you just received on WhatsApp or similar apps might put you off. in difficulty when you are with other people in the car. For example, if a friend sends you comments about another friend who is in the same car as you.
It’s true and I don’t regret anything
Of course, sometimes the problem could be something else: so many interruptions of notifications are annoying, especially if each of them comes with a notification sound that interrupts your music. If you want to stop Android Auto message notifications, there are several ways to do this.
Three levels of silence in Android Auto
The good news is that you have three options to prevent your private messages from being seen or heard by third parties while driving with Android Auto enabled. These are:
- Completely remove all notifications: no notifications are displayed in Android Auto.
- Hide notification text: Notifications are displayed in a notice, but without text.
- Hide notifications: Notifications are not displayed, but you can see them if you open the WhatsApp app or the notifications list.
Absolute silence, without any notification
This is the most radical option because it will not only prevent Android Auto from showing notifications of incoming messages, but it will directly prevent Messaging apps disappear from Android Autolike WhatsApp, Signal or messaging app.
If you want to completely remove Android Auto message notifications, you need to do so from your phone’s Android Auto settings, before connecting it to the car. The option you need to uncheck is Notifications with Assistant.
Notifications, but without the text
An intermediate option is to keep notifications, but which does not display the message text. Instead, the notification says you have a message from X person and the text “Tap to hear.” If you press it, Google Assistant reads the message to you.
You can configure Android Auto so that it behaves this way both in the car and on your mobile. All you have to do is uncheck the option Show first line of messages.
Notifications, but without pop-ups
Another option is hide message notifications, which will prevent you from receiving a warning window each time you receive a new message. However, you will still see that there are pending messages in the notification panel, as it includes a number that increases based on the number of pending unread notifications.
You can continue to ask Google Assistant to read your pending messages and you will also see their texts both in the notification panel and in the appropriate app (WhatsApp, Signal, etc.). If you want to do this you need to disable Show message notificationsin the Android Auto settings in the car or on your mobile.
