Clear the cache of your iPhone or iPad this can be a good way to reclaim space on the device and do some cleanup. If you run out of space it can affect your speed, so this is one way to get things back on track. Clearing cache can also be used to fix errors in your favorite apps, preventing them from repeating themselves when you open them again.
How to Clear Cache on iPhone or iPad
In general, caching is what used to save frequently used photos and files by apps on the device. By storing them there, the iPhone or iPad avoids constantly requesting this data, which speeds up the operation of the device. Applications like Twitter, Telegram or WhatsApp are the typical applications that use this memory, although they are not the only applications.
Clear Safari Cache
Safari has changed a lot in recent years, Safari for iPhone has even added extensions that give the user superpowers. Another app that typically caches items on the iPhone is the Default iOS Browser. If you encounter repeated errors on a website or do you just need to scratch some megabytes space, it’s a good idea to do the following:
-
On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Safari.
-
Go to the Privacy and Security section, click Clear history and website data.
-
Confirm the next dialog box to delete these items.
With this simple gesture, you will have emptied the Safari cache on your iPhone or iPad, leaving them very clean. Please note that it will be deleted on all devices where you use the same Apple account. Thereafter, you must enter your access data for all websites that you access regularly.
Force restart to clear some caches
By forcing your iPhone to restart you can clear some caches, but not all. Force restart, also called hard resetit depends on the model of iPhone that we have in our hands:
-
iPhone with Face ID, iPhone SE 2, and iPhone 8: Press and release the volume up button, press and release the volume down button, and hold the side button. We’ll post it when we see the Apple logo.
-
iPhone 7: Press and hold the volume down and lock button on the iPhone until you see the Apple logo.
-
Rest of iPhone: Press and hold the Home button and the Lock button on the iPhone until the Apple logo appears.
How to Clear Third-Party App Cache
Some third-party apps have a parameter to clean your cache
-
On the iPhone or iPad, we go to Settings > Slack. It will be almost at the end of the apps list.
-
At the bottom we will see the Reset cache on next boot option. We will mark it as active.
This way, when we reopen the application, it will have deleted all these elements from its cache and will load them again. If the application that is causing us problems or whose cache we want to clear does not have this optionwe need to do the following:
-
Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
-
Find the app in question and click on it.
-
Two options will be displayed, one to uninstall the app keeping your documents and data or to remove the app completely. In our case, we are interested in the second option.
To recover the application, just go to the app store, find it, download it and set it up again. But be careful, make sure this app is still in the Apple Store before you delete anything, lest the developer or the company itself has taken it down.
