This year, Apple has added an interesting novelty that is exclusive to the new products presented, both the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro, as well as the Apple Watch Series 8, Watch Ultra and Watch SE (2nd generation) smartwatches.
This is crash detection, designed to detect serious car accidents, such as front, side and rear impacts, as well as rollovers that can occur with a vehicle.
The system acts in such a way that when it detects that an accident of this magnitude has occurred, the device in question emits an audible alarm and contacts the emergency services. In a way, it can save lives at such critical times.
However, it can also happen that your iPhone or Apple Watch mistakenly believes it has detected a crash and attempts to contact emergency services. If you’re worried about encountering false positives, here’s how to turn off the emergency alert.
How to Disable Crash Detection on Apple Watch
If you want to disable the detection of accidents on the Apple Watch Series 8, SE (2ª gen.) or on the Watch Ultra, remove the Watch application on the iPhone and check the lower part of the pantalla to ensure that it is in the pestaña My watch.
Now tap on “Emergency SOS” and in the “Shock detection” section tap on the switch labeled “Call after severe shock” then confirm “Off”.
The switch will turn gray to indicate it is off. Start all over again to turn it back on and it will turn green again, again indicating activation.
How to Disable Crash Detection on iPhone 14
If you want to disable crash detection on iPhone, first know that it only applies to iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max models (these are the only phones that currently support supports functionality).
First, you will need to enter the ‘Settings’ app and again ‘Emergency SOS’. Press the switch labeled “Call after a serious accident”.
In either case, what you’re disabling is the emergency call element; Apple doesn’t explicitly offer a way to completely disable collision detection, but it’s unclear if your device will continue to monitor for collisions with your vehicle if you follow the instructions above.
What is clear is that detected accidents won’t be such a big inconvenience if they don’t involve the emergency services and your emergency contacts.
Remember that if you have already configured your medical datathe device will display a medical data slider so that emergency services can also access this key information.
