You have just boarded the plane which will take you for a few days of vacation rest. This is a 4 hour trip, so you pre-emptively downloaded Apple TV+ movies or series to your iPhone or iPad to keep you entertained during the flight. But you start watching this show offline and… you notice something. Video quality is not what you are used to seeing. What happened?
Choose priorities: definition is better than download speed
What happened is simple. By default, Apple TV+ seeks to save storage space on the iPad and therefore download your movies and series with a quality that is not at the maximum. We can solve it from the TV app’s own preferences.
If you go to iOS settings and find the “TV” section, you will see these options under the “Download options” section. Both are identical, but differentiate whether you are connected to a Wi-Fi network or to the mobile network:
If you click on Wi-Fi (more than the recommended time to download the series), you can choose between a fast download or a high quality download. Select the latter:
Now, as long as you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, the download will be in better quality and you will be able to enjoy the content of Apple TV+ as it deserves. You can repeat this setting in mobile data optionbut beware: data consumption will explode.
