Yes, even though many and many find it strange, there are reasons why you might want to install old versions of macOS on your Mac or MacBook computer.
What are these reasons? You may want to use a software that doesn't work well in the latest version or you need to use another software that requires Rosetta, Apple's request to translate PowerPC programs after the transition to Intel, or maybe you don't like the new version of macOS.
For whatever reason, in this article you will find the answers as we explain how to get older versions of macOS X.
If you wish, you can check out all the MacOS devices available in the Apple store, or browse for Macbook or Mac offers on Amazon Spain by clicking the links.
How to download the older version of macOS X
In the Mac App Store, on the Shopping tab, you will be able to find previous versions of Mac OS X (and macOS) if you have downloaded them before.
We'll start by explaining how to download older versions of Mac OS X from the Mac App store. This way you can access the following operating systems:
- macOS Sierra
- OS X El Capitan Download
- OS X Yosemite Download
- OS X Maverick Download
- OS X Mountain Lion download
- OS X Lion download
The only Mac operating system that you can't get through this is what Snow Leopard does. However, we will explain later how to download Snow Leopard.
It should be noted that you will only see the classic Mac OS X downloads here: if you haven't already (or if you haven't already done it in the Mac App Store), that version won't be in the & # 39; Shopping & # 39; section.
Another reason why the Mac OS X version may not exist is that your computer may come with this factory installed version. We will discuss this case later.
Download Mac OS X from Mac App Store
Here's how to find the previous version of Mac OS X in the App Store (this only works if you've downloaded it in the past):
- Open the Mac Store and sign in.
- Click on the & # 39; Shopping section & # 39;
- Swipe down to find the copy of OS X or macOS you want.
- Click & # 39; enter & # 39 ;.
- Clicking Install will not install the software, but the install program will be uploaded to the folder & # 39; apps & # 39;
However, you will not be able to install this old version of the app directly to a Mac running a newer version of OS X or macOS.
Below we will explain how it can be installed on a Mac, including one that uses the previous operating system.
Can't find Mac OS X in the & # 39; Shopping category & # 39;
If you know you've downloaded the type of macOS you want, but you don't see it in the & # 39; Purchases section & # 39 ;, check out the following:
- Exit the App Store and sign in again.
- If you can download it while plugged in to a different Apple ID (possibly one related to the job), sign in for that ID.
- Alternatively, find the person who downloaded that version of the Mac program and ask them to download the installation file.
- If you've never downloaded a version of Mac OS X, go to step 3 and find the person who made it. Ask them to download your Mac OS X installer.
Fortunately, a copy of OS X is not selected for your account, so it will be installed on any Mac.
The only end you should not do is go to the torrent site and download the OS X copy you want, as this can be dangerous. Pirated copies of Apple's software can be created to allow access hackers and on your Mac.
How to download OS X Snow Leopard
The Mac OS X version you want may not already exist in the Mac App Store. This is the case of Snow Leopard, the first version of Mac OS X that came concurrently with the App Store.
This download mechanism for new Mac OS X applications was introduced with Snow Leopard and means that anyone with Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or earlier versions will not be able to access the Mac App Store to download anything.
The good news is that Apple is allowing the purchase of older Mac operating systems from its website, for a copy of Snow Leopard and, thus, access the Mac App Store.
You can buy A version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard at Apple's official store by clicking on the link.
How to download OS X Lion and Mountain Lion
In addition to being able to buy Snow Leopard on the Apple website, you can buy any operating system up to date OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
If you want to download Lion or Mountain Lion, Apple will send you a download code that you can use in the Mac App Store, so you'll need to use Snow Leopard to install it.
How to download OS X Leopard or previous versions
If you have an older version of the operating system earlier than Snow Leopard and have a developer account, you can find it at developer.apple.com/downloads.
If you search within the OS X section you will see downloads of all OS X types, at least from 10.3 to 10.6.
You may be able to access the developer section of the website, but you can only access certain downloads from software if your Apple ID is associated with a paid Apple developer program.
If you want to know more about Apple's developer program, we recommend reading all the details from its official website, which you can access with this link.
We also recommend looking at sites like Amazon to see if someone is selling an older Apple operating system. For example, you can buy the OS X Lion for € 33.97 on Amazon.
