Since Apple announced the AirPods at its September 2016 event, one of the biggest questions has been: what happens when you lose one? “Apple is not cheap.
A developer got to work creating a solution and launched Finder for AirPods on the App Store shortly after the AirPods launched in December 2016, however, Apple pulled it just weeks after launch.
According to the developer (via MacRumors), Apple has claimed it doesn’t like the “concept” of people finding their AirPods and is deemed “not suitable for the App Store,” and now we understand why.

How to locate lost AirPods using Find My iPhone
Apple launched Find my AirPods in the Find my iPhone app in iOS 10.3. It works over Bluetooth, and the good news is that AirPods don’t need to be nearby for you to find them – although they do need to be within range of an Apple device that’s signed in to your iCloud account.
To do this, simply open the Find My iPhone app on any iOS device with iOS 10.3 or later (or through iCloud.com) and select your AirPods from the list. If your AirPods are near one of your Apple devices, the live location will appear in the app, with a handy button to help you locate them.
You can tap Actions and then Play Sound in the AirPods section of the Find My iPhone app, which will force your headphones to howl and make them easier to locate.
But what if you only lost one earbud and you have the other in your ear? Don’t worry, you won’t go deaf: the app gives you control to mute either of the two headphones, and even if someone has it in their ear, the volume will gradually increase to not cause immediate discomfort.
But what if the headset and case are dead? Although you cannot get a live location, the app will locate the last location where it was able to detect a Bluetooth signal.
Hopefully, this combination of features will allow you to locate your lost AirPods. If you’re sure you can’t find them, your only option is to contact Apple and have a replacement sent to you. (Here’s how to replace a lost AirPods.) Good research!
AirPods Loss Case
What can you do if you lost your AirPods charging case? The case is needed for charging and pairing AirPods, so if you don’t have it, your AirPods are essentially useless once they run out of charge.
Unfortunately, Find My AirPods won’t locate your case if your AirPods aren’t there, so how can you locate the case?
Failing to look on the couch and check the bottom of your bag one more time, you may have to turn to Apple for a replacement.
On its website, Apple says, “If your AirPods or charging case are accidentally damaged, you can replace the damaged item for an out-of-warranty charge. If you lose your AirPods or charging case, we may replace the lost item with one.If we need to replace your AirPods or charging case, your replacement will be new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability. “
We suggest you contact Apple or go to an Apple Store and request a replacement case.
