To have more storage space on your Mac or MacBook you may be thinking of buying external memory, uninstalling programs from your computer or simply starting from scratch and formatting your machine in factory settings.
Now, did you know there are many other ways to win on memory cards? You'll find them all in this article: from sending trash to storing your documents in the cloud, by deleting duplicate files.
When all computers have hard drives, they allow us to have more space on our Macs, but with a solid car, despite some advantages, the capacity is very limited.
In addition, it is common to save high quality videos and photos, which take up a lot of space. Below we explain how to keep at least 10% of free space for your Mac to work properly.
Tip 1. Manage your free storage with macOS
With the release of the MacOS Sierra version of 2016, Apple introduced a new backup feature that lets you delete files from your Mac that you no longer need and transfer others to iCloud.
Although your computer will send you a warning if you run out of free space, we do recommend periodically checking how much you are not available to be surprised. These are the steps to follow.
1. Click on an apple icon on the left side of the toolbar and select the & # 39;About this Mac& # 39; From the drop down menu.
2. In a new floating window, make sure the etiqueta tag is selectedStorage& # 39 ;. The vertical bar represents your hard drive or SSD, which you will see divided into colors, corresponding to each category of files you have saved.

Tip 2. Activate the option of & # 39; Maximize Storage & # 39;
The best way to free up space automatically, so you don't have to worry about doing so, is to use the & # 39; Create Storage option & # 39 ;, which will delete the series and movies you have already seen and delete the attachments in your email.
That doesn't mean you will lose deleted videos and files, because your emails will be stored in your iCloud account and the series and movies you bought on iTunes can always be downloaded again.

Tip 5. Save your files to iCloud

Tip 6. Use another cloud storage service
If iCloud doesn't convince you, you should know there are others cloud storage resources, such as Dropbox or OneDrive, or you should know that, if you have an application installed, this will make your Mac hard drive faster.
That's because these services are automatically synced with your computer, allowing you to access their content in a folder on your Mac that is taking up space.
Now, fortunately, in both services you have the option to sync only certain files or folders, which will logically take up to a few gigabytes. On the other hand, you can also choose to access content only on the web.
Tip 7. Clean up photos and music
The first thing to do if you want to free up space on the device is to think of the files that stay in the gigas, such as your photo gallery. You need to browse, restrict those you no longer need and transfer those to another device.
Also, your iTunes library is certainly one reason why you lose your memory. This way, you have several options on how to proceed and continue to enjoy the beautiful music without having to touch your Mac space.
- Copy original files from your iTunes library to an external device and configure iTunes to find them from now on. This trick can be useful for iMac users, but not so much for MacBook users.
- Use networked storage to archive your songs and access them whenever your computer is connected to the NAS.
- Subscribe to iTunes Match to access your music from any of your devices, even if you import songs from a CD. This plan is priced at € 24.99 per month by users in Spain.
- Subscribe to Apple Music for € 9.99 per month or € 4,99 and € 14.99 if you're a student or family, respectively. This method allows you to access the entire Apple music library so you don't have to have song files on your Mac.
Tip 8. Empty trash manually
As we mentioned before, it's very easy to accumulate many files and files that we no longer need to trash. You can choose to delete them after 30 days or make them more often by clicking the "Pour" button.
Tip 9. Move the files to your download folder
Aside from trash, another folder that often takes up much unnecessary space is that of downloading, which is often overlooked more often than it should. Collects texts, photos and input files that you may not need.
