If you want to carry out administrative formalities with almost any administration in Europe, be it a town hall or the central government, you must do so with a digital certificate. There is no other and everyone must have this certificate installed on their computer, but there is one detail that is often overlooked: we can import this digital certificate to our iPhone.
If you still do not have a digital certificate, you can request one on the Royal Mint website. Any Spanish citizen can request it, although the process can take several days and require you to physically show up at a tax office. The end result will be a file that you can download wherever you want and yes, you can also use it from iOS.
It’s not just the file, it’s the installation of the identity
The certificate file you get should have a .p12 or pfx extension. Just save it to a local directory on your iPhone or iCloud Drive via the Files app and open it from there. As soon as you do so, an alert like this will appear on the iPhone:
If you tap “iPhone”, iOS will notify you that the profile has been downloaded. Then you need to enter Settings, and the option ‘uploaded profile‘ will appear just below your Apple ID information:
Tap this option to open a panel where you can install the certificate by clicking “Install”, top right:
The iPhone will ask you for the lock code, and then you might get a warning that the profile is not signed. Also tap on the Install option and enter the password for the certificate file if it is protected by one (in this case the Treasury should have provided you with this password).
In the end, you will see that the identity certificate has been successfully installed:
It’s done, you have imported your digital tax certificate on your iPhone. Now, whenever you access an administration website, you can choose the option to log in with the certificate, with which iOS itself will offer you to use the installed identity:
The advantage you get from importing the digital certificate to the iPhone is that you don’t need a full computer to consult all the official data you need to know at a specific time. Obviously you will not be doing the income statement on an iPhone because of the inconveniences of the thing, but you will appreciate being able to do some quick steps from your own mobile.
By the way, everything we have explained here can also be applied to iPads, so Apple tablets can also be an interesting hybrid between queries and carrying out more complex instructions using a keyboard and a mouse.
