If you are part of many WhatsApp groups or communities, chances are you can’t keep up with reading all the new messages. So, groups accumulate unread messages while chats with your friends are buried and remain in the background. There is a solution.
If you prefer to leave the messages at zero, you don’t need to do the manual task of entering all the groups one by one to have them marked as read. Instead, WhatsApp has a hidden menu for mark all your groups as read in a few seconds
Read all your groups in two seconds
There are those who prefer to leave pending messages at zero and do not care about having dozens of chats with pending messages. If you are in the first case, you want to know that WhatsApp has a menu for mark all pending messages in your groups as read
This is possible thanks to the conversation filters that have recently arrived in the application. With them, you can filter conversations to see only those with messages waiting to be read, those from your favorite contacts or those from groups.
The best thing about these filters is that they hide a secret menu if you long press on them when they are active (i.e. they are displayed in green). This secret menu includes only one item, Mark as read, except in the Favorites tab, which has an additional menu for editing favorites.
So if you have many messages pending in groups and you don’t want to read them, you can do the following to mark them automatically all your groups as read:
- In the tab CatsSwipe down to show WhatsApp filters at the top.
- Press Groups.
- Long press Groups.
- Press Mark as read.
East much faster than entering each group one by one to mark them as read or select all groups and then use the Mark as read option in the context menu. WhatsApp does not yet have a filter for personal chats (other than groups), but you might be interested in setting the conversations of the people you chat with the most or marking certain contacts as favorites, to be able to see these chats in the Favorites filter without them being buried by groups.
