Currently most of the services we perform on our devices are connected to the Internet. Even with file editing we hope that it will sync changes with our other devices, not to mentionUse platforms like Netflix or read Applesfera. Therefore, having a good connection speed is essential for the experience to be comfortable.
How to measure our internet speed
To measure our communication speed we will use a dedicated web page to measure these gears. On pages of this type there are several, of us we will use Soft.com provided by Netflix.
The testing process is very simple. Without going into too much detail the page deals with it download a document of some size to our computer and time it takes. Later it takes that same file and uploads it to the server and it repeats itself over time. When you're done, delete the downloaded file and give it our download and download speed.
We can use this program on our iPhone, iPad or Mac. The steps to use this tool are as follows:
- We open Safari (or another browser) on our device.
- We're logging into software.com
- We expect the download trial to complete.
- We touch Show more details.
- We are waiting for the load test to complete.
The website will show us various details, as we can see in the picture:
- The largest number at the center of the screen is our download speed.
- Bottom right, close Upload, we see our loading speed, that is, loading.
- Finally, a paragraph Latency, where we are shown the time it takes for our device to respond to a server and vice versa.
How can you improve our internet speed
There are many guidelines for improving the speed of connection to our devices, we will focus on the basics. Before starting, however, it is important to remember that good reading is best repeat the test many times. Something like five or six times in 10 minutes will give us, on average, a very reasonable read with a different result.
That said, let's take a look at what prices we can expect from our internet connection.
- Without fiber optic: between 1 and 10 Mbps.
- With fiber optics and Wi-Fi connection: between 100 and 300 Mbps.
- With fiber optics and cable connections: between 300 and 700 Mbps.
When communication is made over a thread there are two important recommendations. The first is that let's use enough phase cable being able to pass full speed. The CAT-5 cable only works at 100Mbps, so we need a CAT-5e, CAT-6 or higher thread. We can communicate with a section on the same cable, usually written on it.
The second recommendation is close all those apps or services whether we are using bandwidth, when we download content, watch movies, sync files and make a FaceTime call or share our screen we will see it on the link.
If communication is done over Wi-Fi, in addition to shutting down the applications as we discussed in the previous section, it is important to get close to the router. Of course we'll all have heard that proximity to the router is better, but there is a little helpful trick unknown: once we become you are near a router connection from Wi-Fi and reconnect. Why? So that when reconnecting a router, if any, we use a 5GHz network, the change, if not, does not happen automatically.
And just like that, with these steps we can measure the internet connection that our devices have, test whether it's faster and, if necessary, make certain improvements to make the experience much better.
