QuickTime Player is a convenient way to record audio and video from your Mac. You can select audio sources including real or virtual microphones or sound inputs and video sources including nearby iPhones, iPads and Apple TVs.
After pressing the Save button, you may not realize that you have another option other than clicking the button again, now in the form of the Stop button. By clicking Stop finishes recording and you are prompted to save the resulting file.
However, there is a hidden option that you cannot access from any menu: hold Option and the Stop icon changes to a Pause icon. press the Break icon, and, as expected, pauses.
While paused, the button appears again as the red Save button. Tap it to continue. You can also hold Option and the button changes to Stop. Click on it to finish recording.

Unfortunately, this option feature is only available for audio and video recordings. You cannot use it while recording screen on your Mac. You need third-party screen recording software for this, or use iMovie or a similar editing program to stitch together screen recordings.
