Android Auto is an extension of our phones onto the screen of our cars for music, notifications and, of course, navigation. This means we don’t need to constantly touch our phone when we’re in the car (and we shouldn’t!). In fact, it is not even necessary to touch the mobile to save where you parked the car.
Because if this has ever happened to you, you understand how desperate this situation can be: you parked your car while rushing to your destination, and when you want to go home… you don’t remember where it is. Previously, it was common to use your cell phone to record location, but if you have Android Auto, the car will do it for you
Google Maps, where is my car?
Google recently integrated an extremely useful feature into the version of Google Maps for Android Auto: the search giant’s navigation app is now also available can record where you parked the car.
That is, to save the location of your car when parking, there is no need to install an additional application or do any tricks, the function is available directly in Google Maps. You just need to have the application updated to its most recent version to be able to benefit from it.
When you arrive at your destination, the Google Maps screen in Android Auto now displays a new sliding button in the upper right corner that says “Save parking”, next to the letter “P”. If you check this box, Maps will record your car’s location directly from the Android Auto screen, without taking your phone out of your pocket.
To find your car, you will of course need the help of your cell phone. Go to the Google Maps app on your smartphone and look for the marker on the map that says “You parked here.” On the other hand, if you have moved too far from the car and cannot easily find the marker, you can tap the search bar then tap Where is my car?
If you forgot to save the location, there is still hope
But let’s say you were in such a hurry to get to your destination, maybe you were going to be late for an important meeting, and you forgot to check the “Save Parking” box on the Maps screen in Android Auto. Don’t despair, all is not lost
Google Maps, by default, generally records and stores the places you’ve been and can also detect whether you’re traveling by car, taking other transportation, or walking. This means that even if you forget to check the box, you You can ask Google Assistant “Where is my car?”and Google’s virtual assistant will show you on Google Maps the last place you drove to, according to its records, where your car is probably located.
While writing this article, I tested and asked Assistant “where is my car”, and Assistant showed me the last place I drove to, even though I did this taxi journey. Technically, if I had gone in my own car, the location would have been okay.
