How to reset our iPhone lock code easily and quickly

Our iPhone unlock code is the one that gives us access to the phone. It may seem that it is replaced by Face ID or Touch ID, but the truth is that these methods directly depend on the code and request it on different occasions. A code, therefore, really important that we must be able to reset under certain circumstances.

A simple process, as long as we know the current code

Once we consider resetting or changing our iPhone lock passcode, two scenarios can occur: whether we know the current code or we don’t. In the first case, changing the lock code is really simple, the steps to follow are the following:

1. We unlock our iPhone using current passcode, Face ID or Touch ID.
2. We open the application Settings.
3. We entered Coded oh Touch ID and passcode oh Face identification and code.
4. We enter the unlock code of our iPhone.
5. we touch change the code.
6. We enter the current code.
7. We press Next.
8. Enter the new code, if necessary click on code options to create an alphanumeric one.
9. We enter the new code a second time.

Clever. With this we will have changed the lock code of our iPhone. A process, as we can see, which only lasts a few minutes. Now, however, the situation changes a lot if we don’t know the actual code.

A longer process if we don’t know it and impossible if the iPhone is not ours

Here we must make a clarification before continuing. The lock code of an iPhone is not the only element that protects the use of the phone. If the phone to which we try to change the code is not ours, even if we restore the code, we will find the activation lock (which reminds us to never give out iCloud credentials when losing an iPhone), which requires entering the Apple ID email of the previous owner and follow a few steps before you can use the iPhone.

This means that we will not be able to use an iPhone that is not ours without the consent of its rightful owner, so at this point we should refrain from changing the lock code. If instead we talk about an iPhone of ours whose code we simply forgot, yes we can restore it. Taking into account that we will need a PC with iTunes or a Mac, we will do it like this:

1. If the iPhone was focused on the computer, we disconnected it.
2. We turn off the iPhone.
3. We press and hold the side button (from iPhone 8), the volume down button on iPhone 7 or the home button on iPhone SE or first generation iPhone 6S and versions previous.
4. While holding down the button, we plug the iPhone into the computer.
5. We continue to hold the button until we see a recovery mode message on the screen.
6. When Finder or iTunes detects the iPhone and offers us to restore it, we will touch Restoreso if you ask us we will play restore and update.
7. Once the process is complete, which can take several minutes, we can unplug the iPhone and configure it to use it.

During the configuration, we can restore the iCloud backup, if we have it, or Mac backup, if available. With this we will have all the information at our disposal and we could have created a new code during the configuration processleaving behind the old code that we were unaware of.
