Press “reset” on YouTube
YouTube, like other platforms such as Twitter or TikTok, recommends content to registered users using an algorithm to detect your interests, but it still doesn’t workand if you never find anything you’re interested in, maybe it’s time to restart it.
[Pulsar el botón de “No me gusta” en YouTube no sirve absolutamente para nada]
And it is that many YouTube users share the feeling that the algorithm does not work as it should on certain occasions, often recommending the same videos, which in many cases are videos that you have seen occasionally.
This way, Google will have a new opportunity to understand you and recommend better content on YouTube.
How to Delete YouTube Watch History
Clear all watch history
If you want to give YouTube recommendations another shot, you need to delete your watch history because the company’s algorithm recommends content based on videos you’ve recently watched. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the YouTube app.
- Go to Library, in the bottom bar.
- Click on history.
- Open the three dots menu.
- Tap Clear all watch history.
Now you’ll see the platform’s recommendations reconfigured based on the content you’re watching after clearing your history, leaving behind all recommendations based on what you’ve seen so far.
If you want a change of scenery in terms of YouTube content, this is a good option, because you will be able to access recommendations that I might not have suggested before the platform.
However, if the recommendations still don’t convince you, maybe you should pause the history so you don’t depend on them.
Disable history
Turn off YouTube history
If you want to disable YouTube watch and search history, you will need to open the platform from your computer to do so. You just have to follow these steps:
- Open YouTube, go to Library and tap on History
- In the 3-dot menu, click Manage All History.
- Click Save All Your History.
- Disable the desired options.
If you pause search and watch history, Google won’t save the videos you’ve visited and the searches you’ve done in the app’s search box, so the recommendations might be a little less specific, but that might be what you’re looking for so you don’t depend on it.
