We know it happens because it happens every year, without exception. A new beta of iOS is coming, many people install it to be able to test the news months before the official launch and then comes the regret. The iOS 17 beta, like all betas, has bugs and stability issues.
Thus, more than one will now think of reinstall iOS 16 from iOS 17 beta. Look no further, it can be done easily and we’ll tell you how. You just have to be aware of the sacrifice you will have to make as it happens in all betas.
To return means to restore, and to restore means to erase everything.
It is important to assume two very important facts:
- Downgrade to iOS 16 from iOS 17 beta means lose all data. You must restore the iPhone to its factory settings through a computer, and any backups you have made since the iOS 17 beta cannot be used to try to recover this data.
- If you also tried watchOS 10 beta, you need to revert to watchOS 9 (also losing watch data) before reverting to iOS 16. Otherwise, you can’t use Apple Watch with watchOS 10 and iOS 16. The two systems don’t understand each other.
By understanding these points, we are going to see how we can roll back to iOS 16 from the iOS 17 beta. The first thing you will need to do is connect iPhone via cable to Mac (or a PC with iTunes installed). You’ll see it appear in the Finder sidebar, although it’ll probably ask for your unlock code first for security reasons.
As soon as you see all the information about the iPhone displayed in this section of Finder, it’s time to put your iPhone in recovery mode. You can do this in the following way with iPhone XS and later:
- Press and release the volume up button
- Press and release the volume down button
- Press and hold the lock button on the iPhone until the iPhone restarts and boots into recovery mode.
On Mac, the following message will appear, in which we will be interested in pressing the ‘Restore’ button:
From there, you must follow the instructions that the Finder asks you until the iPhone is restored and with the most recent stable version of iOS the Mac is downloaded and installed on the device. Remember: when you’re done, you have a clean iPhone, like it was just unboxed. You can only recover your data if you have kept a backup made with iOS 16 before updating to the iOS 17 beta. Either locally on a computer or in the cloud via iCloud.
From Applesphere We will always recommend that you be patient and wait for the stable versions of iOS to install them.. The betas are reserved for developers, even if they withdrew the 99 dollars per year from their accounts to be able to access the beta. You can do your tests, but you are entirely responsible for what happens there.
