The autonomy of the mobile determines how long we can use it, and for many, It’s a headache. On Android, there are many ways to save battery, like turning on data saver or keeping tabs on which apps are syncing.
However, since Android 13, app battery management seems to have found a rallying point. And it is precisely this feature that we can take advantage of to extend the battery of our mobile.
Android allows us to save battery by limiting applications
In Google’s mobile operating system, there has always been disagreement when it comes to battery management. Since its inception, we have seen how manufacturers have added different battery saving modesand even today, many companies continue to add exclusive features.
This only fragments the ecosystem, but in the latest version of Android, Google wants to unify app power management. Now, each application has its own section in which we can restrict the battery usage in the background.
On a daily basis, we install many applications that we need, but it affects the autonomy of our phones. Luckily, we can take advantage of this setting and add an extra trick to the list of battery saving methods. This is how I extend the autonomy of my mobile with this simple configuration.
I need these apps on my mobile, but I don’t work all day
It often happens to me that when checking the applications menu, I discover some that are installed and I did not remember them. These are usually apps that I don’t use very often, but I know I’ll need them when I least expect them. To give some examples: the doctor’s app, some secondary social networks, some Google services such as Drive, streaming platforms, among others.
As well, limiting the consumption of these applications is easy. To do this we have two options: go to the battery section in the settings or enter the “Application information” section. If we choose the first, we will have an overview of the consumption generated by each installed application. The procedure to follow is as follows:
- Go to the section of Settings of the phone.
- Next, tap “Battery”.
- Next, tap on “Battery usage”.
- On the next screen, you will see the battery consumption generated by each installed application. You will be able to check background activity as well as total usage.
- Tap the app you want to restrict.
- In the battery usage tab of the app, you can select restriction type.
By default, if we want the applications to work normally, we will leave it in “Optimized”, but if we do not need the background activity and the consumption that this entails, we can select “Restricted” to limit it.
This trick is very useful and prevents the synchronization of installed applications, as it happens with mobile accounts. Keep in mind that if you are a user of a manufacturer that is moving away from “pure” Android, this parameter can have another name and another location. For example, in Xiaomi terminals we must go to the application tab (in the battery section we cannot manage this directly) and then to the section called “Battery saving”.
This trick will help you save battery, but you have to consider which apps are not so important: you may lose functions or notifications.
In addition, some manufacturers like Xiaomi use another type of optimization of their own which It is recommended to allow applications to run normally.
You also have to think about not limiting yourself without control. Consider that if you restrict an app, you may stop receiving notifications from it, thus impairing its proper functioning. Others may simply stop working, so You need to think about it carefully before performing this action..
