One of the biggest benefits of having a connected device with you at all times is that you can call for help in almost any emergency. But what if you can’t? By setting up Medical ID in the iOS Health app, you can let anyone near you or who discovers you use your phone to send health information to emergency services or call people you’ve designated as emergency contacts.
In the Health app, tap your profile picture in the upper-right corner, then tap Medical card. You can press To modify to add information about allergies, conditions, medications and more, as well as to add your blood type and other data.
Scroll down for additional information you can add: Select the people from your contacts to add under Emergency Contacts. You can identify their relationship to you when selecting. For added security, enable Show when locked And Share during an emergency call.

With both enabled, if you can’t speak or are unconscious, someone can:
- Tap your iPhone’s screen or press its side or home button to bring up the lock screen, tap Emergencyand press Medical card.
- Press and hold the side button on an Apple Watch, then slide the Medical card cursor to the right.
The second setting allows that person to share your medical ID information from an iPhone or Apple Watch during an emergency call.
With the contacts selected, someone can tap Emergency on the lock screen, tap Medical cardswipe down to Emergency Contactsand press one of these numbers to call your contacts.
If you or someone else uses Emergency SOS on your phone to initiate an emergency call, everyone listed as an emergency contact will receive a text message once your call with emergency services ends, which will also contain your current location. They will also receive updates as your location changes until you cancel the SOS status.
