Step by Step to Transfer Photos and Videos from Google Photos to iCloud Photos
With the “Google Takeout” feature, you can initiate a simple and secure transfer, but Before applying, you must ensure that you have:
- Storage space: iCloud offers 5GB of free storage, while Google Photos gives you 15GB. If your photo library is large, you may need to purchase more iCloud space.
- File types: Not all file types are transferred. Some formats, such as Motion Photos or Live Photos, aren’t supported by iCloud.
- Transfer time: The process can take anywhere from a few hours to several days, depending on the size of your photo library.

There are some Details to consider when transferring. There are several reasons why your transfer may not include all the photos, videos, or formats you expected.

- Supported Formats: JPEG, HEIC, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and BMP photo file types can be transferred, as well as MP4 and MOV video file types.
- Unsupported files: Photo and video files that can’t be transferred to iCloud Photos, including RAW files, are transferred to iCloud Drive.
