YouTube is working on a new feature that it is already testing with a select circle of users on devices using Android TV and Google TV. A novelty that can provoke contradictory opinions: it is the preview videos with sound.
This is not something new, since automatic video playback is already available on mobile devices and in desktop versions. When pausing in a video, the window expands and starts to be heard automatically
Enabled by default, this is how it is disabled
Right now it’s a test limited to a small number of users, so it’s not certain (although not impossible) that you have it active if you’re using Google TV or Android TV. it is a question of verifying how users react to this change and if it works really well.
The functionality has no mysteries. As they found out in 9to5Google, when you stop scrolling a window preview it increases the size and the video but also the audio streaming starts. The same as in the mobile and desktop versions.
On TVs, however, it might not be as pleasant an experience, so it’s always appreciated that the developers have enabled an option to disable it in the settings menu.
If we don’t want the videos to play automatically with audio in the previews, just go to the menu that appears on the left side of the screen to access the “Setting”
To check if I was lucky and had this option enabled, I tried with a Chromecast with Google TV and to my surprise, yes it seems. However, on a TV with Android TV, the option still does not appear.
By default, video preview with sound is automatically activated, so if you don’t want to know anything about it, you will have to disable it by hand by following the steps we described earlier.
