The Apple Watch doesn’t have a headphone port, so the ability to use wired headphones is out of the equation. However, any pair of Bluetooth headphones will be compatible with the watch, and not just AirPods.
How to pair your headphones with Apple Watch
First, you need to pair your headphones with the watch, and the way you do this varies depending on the type of headphones you’re holding.
Put the headset into pairing mode. On most of these devices, there will be a button that you need to hold down for a while, until an indicator light begins to flash. It is advisable to consult the instructions for each model.
Once they’re in pairing mode, head over to the Apple Watch and open the “ Settings ” app. (Press the digital crown to access the apps, then tap the settings icon).
Then click on “Bluetooth” and you can see if there are other devices paired with your watch. Scroll down and tap Search to locate your headphones. A PIN code or password may be required, depending on the security features.
Once the pairing process is complete, you will be able to use them from your smart watch, without having to go to your iPhone or iPad as the only option to listen to music on them.
Configure playlists
Once your headphones are paired, you can stream your favorite songs through Apple Music. But if you want to store music on the watch (for listening to it while running, for example, if you don’t have the Cellular model), you’ll need to know how they work with playlists.
An Apple Watch can only store one music playlist. So, create a playlist on the iPhone with all the songs you want to transfer to the watch; call it “Watch Playlist” so that it is easy to identify.
Now sync the playlist with the clock. Put the watch on your charger and make sure Bluetooth connectivity is turned on on both iPhone and the watch.
Open the Watch app on the companion iPhone and tap “ My Watch> Music> Synced Music ”. Then tap the playlist on your watch. A message will appear saying “Sync Pending”, then the playlist will start to sync.
Please wait for this to complete before removing the watch from your charger and starting to use it.
How to play music from the watch
Now that you’ve got some music stored on your watch and you’ve paired your headphones, you’re ready to leave the house without using your iPhone. On your Apple Watch, open the “Music” app, then tap on the screen and select “Source> Apple Watch”.
This is when you will see the “Playlist” on your watch.
