Power use an iMac as an external monitor it can be really interesting on more than one occasion. Whether we’re talking about using it to display content from our iPhone or iPad on a bigger screen or using it with another Mac AirPlay, and macOS Monterey gives us everything we need.
First compatibility and configuration
Before going into more details, let’s see which devices support this feature. As for the Mac, we will need to have a machine from this list:
- MacBook Pro or MacBook Air from 2018 and later.
- iMac 2019 or later.
- iMac Pro 2017.
- Mac Pro 2019.
- Mac mini of 2020.
These computers can be configured as an AirPlay reception point, which will allow us to use it as an external monitor from another Mac. AirPlay should be enabled by default on our Mac, but it is always good to check that this is so. We will do this by following these steps:
- In the Apple () menu, we choose System Preferences.
- We entered To share.
- If necessary, we touch the padlock at the bottom left and enter the password of our Mac to be able to make changes.
- We activate AirPlay Receiver.
Note that by default, only devices on which we have signed in with the same Apple ID that on the iMac will be able to use AirPlay with the computer. We can also change this setting by pressing Receiver air clearance. We will see three options:
- Current user: only we can use AirPlay on our Mac.
- Anyone on the same network: all iPhones connected to the Wi-Fi that the Mac is connected to will be able to use AirPlay.
- All: any device close to the Mac will be able to use AirPlay.
In any c ase, moreover, we can set password
And then just log in
already done that we only have to connect to the iMac to use it as an external monitor. The process is very simple. If we want to share our screen, the steps are as follows:
- We access the Control Center on our Mac.
- we touch mirror screen
- We select the name of our iMac.
Remember, however, that we are going to be working on a duplicate screen, i.e. we will see the same thing on our two Macs. Thus, this system is more interesting when you have, for example, a very small Mac and you want to work with all the screen size that the iMac offers us, not to extend the screen in a combined way.
Interesting is also when using the iMac as an external display for our iPhone or iPad. A system that allows us to see certain content on a larger screen, and that only requires a few steps.
In Applesphere | A photo pass is the best way to show off those on our iPhone. So we can create it
