I want to try the Apple Vision Pro, I won’t fool you. But this is the first Apple product with which I have doubts whether I will be able to enjoy it as it deserves. I have worn glasses since I was 11 years old.and what was initially a typical case of myopia now leads to eye fatigue, dryness… it’s not that I’m the best user at sticking two screens to my face.
But fortunately, Apple has thought of everyone. The company has taken care to market adapters and lenses adapted to the eyes of each user, so that anyone who cannot use Vision Pro constitutes an exceptional case. We will see What do you need to do to be able to have Vision Pro if you wear glasses?.
Using Vision Pro with contact lenses or “reading glasses”
First of all, let’s clear up the simplest doubts. If you wear contact lenses, you can use Vision Pro without the need for adapters. Unfortunately, if you detect dizziness or blurred vision, it is recommended that you consider the possibility of using additional ZEISS lenses.
If you don’t need contact lenses or glasses, you’re one of the lucky ones who can use the Vision Pro without having to make any adjustments.
Now, what happens if you wear glasses? Well, Apple clearly states in its official documentation that you cannot wear them while using the Vision Pro. You need to remove them and use some of the ZEISS prescription lenses sold separately by Apple.
If you only need glasses with a graduation ceremony to see up close which can be pre-established (like these “reading glasses” that you can buy in certain stores without needing to be checked by an optician), then it’s easy. You just need to know the prescription of the glasses you have purchased and order the equivalent lenses. You have three options:
- +0.75 to +1.25
- +1.50 to +1.75
- +2.00 to +2.75
Use Vision Pro with prescription glasses for myopia and/or astigmatism
If like me you are myopic or astigmatic and you wear prescription glasses made by an optician, you will have to take more steps. You will need to go to the optician where you had your glasses made and request a report with your diploma. This report must specify:
- Your personal data, including your date of birth, your full name and enough information about the optician to demonstrate that they are a valid company to diagnose your vision condition and needs.
- Correction to see far and/or up close depending on your needs.
- An expiration date that demonstrates that the report is up to date.
At the moment this process is adapted to the United States, so we are waiting to see how it will be simplified in USA and other countries. But in any case, with this report You can order ZEISS lenses tailored to your needs from Apple.
If for some reason you already have all the information on your prescription, you can work further and check if ZEISS is able to make lenses for the Vision Pro that are right for you. You can do this from this website, which is currently in English only.
Using Vision Pro with other visual limitations
Apple has ensured that the Vision Pro can be used even with other types of visual limitations:
- If only you have vision in one eyeyou can configure the Vision Pro so that only this eye is taken into account.
- If you have strabismus or so-called “lazy eye” (or any condition where eye alignment is not always correct), Apple recommends following visionOS accessibility settings to best fine-tune the experience. Please note, the experience using the Vision Pro may not be optimal. It is also recommended to upgrade to visionOS using your hands or voice as an alternative.
- If you have another health condition, Apple recommends that you consult your optician or ophthalmologist before using the Vision Pro.
Once the Vision Pro (or another model) arrives in USA, We will know more details about what the process will be in our country. If you want to prepare for a possible launch in a few months, perhaps you could move forward with the work by going to your optician now so that he can provide you with a complete report on your vision prescription.
