Cash has long been the predominant payment method in Europe. Gradually, over the past few decades, credit and debit cards have been gaining ground, and the advent of watches and smartphones has accentuated this change. It is increasingly common to use one of these devices to pay, although there are still many citizens who prefer to use coins and notes.
To have cash, the most common thing is to go to the bank to withdraw it, before through its counters and for some time now almost exclusively at ATMs, which allow us to withdraw money from our account (or a loan if we use the credit card). For that You always needed to have a bank card, but now it is possible to do so with your mobile.
To be able to withdraw money with the phone at an ATM, we will need have a compatible mobile, an application that allows the use of the card and be a customer of one of the banks that have this operational option. In this way we can leave the cards at home, so as not to lose them, or use them even when they have deteriorated and it is in a moment of emergency.
How to withdraw money with your mobile
As for the phone, you will need one that has NFC (Near Field Communications), a chip that allows information to be transferred between very close devices, a few millimeters apart. Most current mobiles, even the simplest ones, have this featurewhich may be active by default, but this is not always the case.

Besides this chip it will be necessary to install an application allowing the use of bank cards. In the case of Android, this application is Google Wallet, which allows you to have this type of card, among many others. When we set it up, we need to link our bank card.
The third thing to keep in mind is that it is mandatory to have a bank that accepts this type of transaction, and that has a network of distributors with NFC. If our bank only has ATMs that require us to insert the card to use the magnetic stripe, we will not be able to use our cell phones to withdraw money. Here are some of the banks that offer the service:
- Active Bank
- bank
- Santander bank
- BBVA
- the bank
- banker
- Sabadell Bank
- cajamar
- rural box
- CaixaBank
- EVO bench
- ImaginBank
- Liberbank

It is possible that there are more banks that have compatible ATMs, and even that they are updated as they are modernized. You can check if it works in our almost at the ATM itself, looking at whether you have the option of withdrawing money with contactless cards, which are the ones that the mobile phone reproduces.
And if you prefer you can wear a watch with Wear OS withdraw cash in the same way, bringing it closer to the ATM area marked with the contactless card symbol. The watch and the mobile should select the appropriate cards, in case there are several in Google Wallet.
