Apple Maps is becoming more comprehensive in every way every day and now has a new “Search Here” feature in iOS 18 betas which will help users search for locations, businesses and points of interest in a specific area of the map. Yeah, something that Google Maps already hadbut we were missing it in Apple Maps. The problem is that the feature is not visible at first glance when you open the app. Let’s see how we can use it.
The latest update, iOS 18, brings several interesting improvements to Apple Maps, but “Search here” could be considered a significant improvement. The feature allows users Refine your searches to specific areas on the mapproviding more relevant and accurate results in the selected area (or rather the one visible on the map at the time we use the feature).
“Search Here” is a convenient solution to a common problem where searches return results from a large and often irrelevant geographic area. By allowing users to specify a search region, Apple Maps ensures that results are limited to the selected areawhich makes it easier to find what you are looking for. As I mentioned, a solution that if you are a Google Maps user you will have already used very often to focus your search for restaurants or other on a specific point in your location.
How to use Find Here in Apple Maps
The first step is once we open the app, search for what we want directly in the search bar and perform this first search. Then, to start using the “Search Here” function, adjust the map area by zooming in on the area you want to search. You can also combine this with additional filters available in Apple Maps, such as “Open Now” or specific categories, to further refine your search. The “Search here” button will then appear at the bottom of the app. (as you can see in the image above AppleInsider) which you can press and the search will be done again but more precisely in the area you zoomed in on. Easy, simple and very very practical.
Another point in favor of Apple’s implementation is that As you move the map to see more areas, it will automatically reload with your search if there is a point that meets the criteria. Well done, Apple.
