MIUI, the personalization layer that Xiaomi phones include, includes an option to clone apps such as WhatsApp or Telegram, but it doesn’t appear on all phones. Cheaper ones may miss dual apps in their MIUI settings, but there are several ways to duplicate them. We explain them to you.
Xiaomi mobiles usually have dual SIM, it is a function that is available both in the low end and the most prime. Having two phone numbers allows you to have two simultaneous WhatsApp accounts, For example; if it weren’t for the fact that the app can only be used with one number. Fortunately, MIUI includes two apps as standard, a function to use two WhatsApp, two Facebook, two Telegram and many other apps. And it can generally be used even if the option does not appear in the settings.
MIUI gives you the duplicate option when you download the app
In general, just go to the settings of most Xiaomi phones and enter the “Dual apps” section: from this section you can duplicate compatible applications. WhatsApp is one of the main ones (probably the most used), along with Telegram and social networks like Facebook. Choose the application and follow the steps, it’s as simple as that: MIUI will create a parallel application to register it with another account.
The above method is the generic method for most Xiaomi phones: almost all of them offer the dual apps in MIUI settings. However, There are cheap mobiles that do not have said serial menu, as is the case with the Xiaomi Redmi 9A. For these cases, the MIUI installation menu can be used, that confirmation screen that appears whenever a download is complete.
To duplicate an application on a Xiaomi mobile that does not have the dual applications option, you must do the following:
- Download the app you want to duplicate. It can come from Google Play or other sources, the process is the same.
- When MIUI downloads the app, it will proceed to install it. Look at the confirmation screen that appears after the process.
- After installation, and as long as the app is eligible for mirroring, a “Dual Apps” button will appear to the left of the “Open” button. You need to click on the first option.
- MIUI will guide you through the mirroring process.
- In case you had already installed the application, and as long as “Duplicate applications” does not appear in the MIUI menu, you will have to uninstall it to download it again. Make sure you have saved a backup (with this process if it is WhatsApp, for example) and reinstall it, watching the screen that appears after installation. Then click on the “Duplicate Apps” button and continue with the guided process.
You need to be on your guard because if the installation screen closes, you will need to uninstall the app to download it again. In addition, not all Xiaomi works the same way: there will be some that can’t even mirror the apps from the download screen. Make sure you always have the latest version of MIUI and system apps.
Alternative method: with the MIUI Downloader app
The MIUI Downloader app not only offers a quick way to update Xiaomi phones, but it also includes the activation of hidden functions in MIUI. This is the case of Dual Apps: the mobile may not display the menu, but MIUI includes it in its software; it is therefore sufficient to access the hidden switch to display the function. This is where MIUI Downloader comes in.
