Few people knew that Netflix still sends DVDs of films and series at home, it will not be available this year.
Netflix is one of the most important streaming video platforms in the world, but its beginnings are very different. Few know it, but Netflix was born as a alternative to the traditional video store that sent movies and series by mail to your home in physical format. And they still do today.
However, this is going to end very soon since Netflix has announced that it will ship its final DVD on September 29and all existing DVD subscribers will become streaming-only subscribers.
On September 29, 2023, we will send the last red envelope. It has been a real pleasure and honor to host movie nights for our wonderful members for 25 years. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey, including this last season of red envelopes.
End of an Era: Netflix Stops Mailing DVDs 25 Years Later
Although Netflix seems to be a very current company, the truth is that it is a company that is already more than 25 years old. Created on August 29, 1997, Netflix started out as a DVD rental system by mail. Users received the film or series they wanted to see on DVD by mail, once viewed, they returned it by regular mail.
It’s only a decade later, in 2007, the company entered the streaming and video-on-demand market. But the most curious of all is that this service was still available in the middle of 2023.

We want to sincerely thank all of our amazing members. We couldn’t have delivered over 5 billion envelopes across America without moviegoers like you.
Result surprising that Netflix continued to have a service with physical support while he is famous worldwide for the exact opposite. A decision that clearly makes a lot of sense, even though they have lost the top spot as the streaming platform with the biggest audience. In addition, the company is in full transformation and the games will soon arrive on all televisions in the world.
