I lost an Apple Watch Series 8 in a theft and ended up buying another one. That’s what I learned

Have you ever lost an Apple Watch? I do. It is one of the most curious experiences of my life. i could say that all the stars aligned that day. I was very distracted, turned off Research Mode (which I’ve never turned off in my life), I was sleepy, worried about other circumstances…it was absolutely funny. I tell you.

It was a beautiful afternoon in early February when an old friend from the United States called to invite me to an event his company was having in Washington DC the first week of March. Other people I knew were going to go, and I hadn’t seen him in a long time, so that’s where i went.

I went online and I bought the plane tickets. Hotel, travel, meals, etc., that week was covered by his company, so I was thrilled with life. I was happy. I was going to see lots of friends and acquaintances, I was going to spend a week in Washington without spending a euro, and to top it all off Iberia sent me an email telling me that they had sold me a tourist place which was already occupied, that there were no more free places, and that I was going to leave as a premium tourist. Marvellous.

These things never happen until the day they do

The day before I left for Madrid to sleep there and leave for the airport the next day. I checked 17 times that I had everything: wallet, passport, iPhone, AirPods Pro, Apple Watch, Mac, chargers, adapters, etc. I’m pretty forgetful, and I didn’t want to leave anything at home. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I took everything with me.

Finally came the day. I woke up to see that everything was charged (tip for long trips: MacBook Air/Pro are a great external battery) and that I hadn’t forgotten anything. I left for the airport, went to the check-in counter and was told: “there is a problem with your flight”. I turned pale.

Luckily my “problem” was that the upgrade they gave me to premium tourist was not properly registered in the system, my seat was assigned to someone else, there was no more of vacant seats and that I should travel on business. You see what a problem. I had never been upgraded before and on this flight they are going to give me two.

He was extremely comfortable. How wonderful, please.

At that time, I was the happiest person in the world. I was going to see my friends in the USA, vacation in my favorite totally free city, and I was also going to do it in Business. For the face. If we put that into perspective, it could be fate trying to catch up with me. what was going to end up happening to me during the flight.

Once inside the plane, and since the Apple Watch Series 8 was giving me weird problems, I decided to try restarting it. I turned off search mode with the intention of activating it as soon as the process is complete. Do you remember that I told you earlier that I am quite forgetful? GOOD. Well I forgot.

I tinkered with the seat the entire flight. Wonderful. It turned into a bed, completely isolated you, and even gave a little massage if you pressed a button. He was like a little boy who just opened a new toy. And I didn’t realize it my Apple Watch Series 8 fell on the floor. Later, I fell asleep and the little hope that I realized it was gone.

I woke up half an hour after landing, got everything ready to disembark and didn’t realize my Apple Watch was missing. We arrived at the airport, I got off the plane, went through immigration and went to wait for my suitcase. It was taking too long and I instinctively raised my hand to check the time on my Apple Watch. And then I realised. I didn’t wear a watch.

At first I laughed a little because the situation seemed a bit funny to me, but gradually I started to realize what had happened, and that I couldn’t get back on the plane. The whole trip had gone so well…but hey, you know what they say, if anything can go wrong, it’ll be fine.

I went into search on my iPhone 14 Pro and apple watch did not show up – I had it disabled – and I started to panic. I managed to relax, and I told myself that this was not going to ruin my trip. I went to the Iberia site to fill out a lost property form on their flights and gave it to send without much hope.

Since then I haven’t heard anything from them, until a few days ago they emailed me saying something like this they hadn’t found it and they weren’t going. But I wanted my Apple Watch. I use it everyday and love its features.

I briefly thought about looking at cheaper alternatives, but they aren’t the same. That level of integration, features, everything working as it should. It’s something only the Apple Watch offers. It combines, in my opinion, all the good things a watch like a Garmin can be, with an impressive design. And the personalization that their wristbands give you is also on another level. There are no other equals.

I can say that the Apple Watch Series 8 I liked it so much that I bought it twice. In fact, if I lost it again, I would surely buy it back. It’s not two without three, is it? Now seriously, I think it’s an impressive device, and with rumors about what’s to come in watchOS 10, things couldn’t be better.

I learned a lot from this experience. If you’re as forgetful as this writer, don’t trust your future self to remember anything. He does not go. It’s time to take it on. Reminders were invented for a reason. If, like me, you turn off Find Mode on a device, ask your iPhone to remind you to turn it back on as soon as possible.

You may think you will never lose your iPhone or Apple Watch. You will think this has never happened to you and will continue to be so. Well no. I also believed the same. I’m forgetful, but I’ve never lost any technological device. However, and as I have been able to verify, itthings never happen until the day they go, and they do.

Never turn off Search mode. Oh really. And if you have to, let it be for a very costly period of time and don’t take your eyes off your device until it’s turned back on. It is very unlikely that you will lose it in such a short time, but if it happened to you once, that’s enough, and if it happened to me, it can happen to anyone.

If you lose your device, there are a series of data that you want to collect as soon as possible. Try to locate the serial number, find it in the search, go to the local lost and found office and try to remember where it might have been. Anything you get will be good, and will get you one step closer to locating your device.

What to do if your iPhone is stolen: step by step to recover, lock or erase it remotely

In any case, if you can’t find it, nothing happens. It’s something that happens to a lot of people every day, and no one has ever died from it. Try to stay calm. Worst case scenario, you’ll have to make a payout you weren’t counting on, or use an old phone, but that’s no big deal either. You don’t have to worry so much about these things and you have to live a little longer.
