We are experiencing the big week of iOS 18 with the launch of the final version to the general public. Among the new features of this version are: some functions which are primarily aimed at people with vision, hearing and/or mobility problems. In fact, many of the new accessibility-related features were announced before iOS 18 was even unveiled.
One of them is the known as “haptic music”available in particular on Apple Music. Its aim is to help people with hearing problems by accompanying the rhythm of the song with vibrations. However, in addition to this great virtue, it has another one related to cleaning the iPhone.
What is “Haptic Music” brought by iOS 18
You probably haven’t even heard of this feature. The truth is that at first it is even difficult to find it because it is relatively hidden in the system. It is not in vain that it is an accessibility feature as we mentioned in the introduction, it is a secondary settings panel for users who do not suffer from any type of disability.
“Haptic Music” is launched with a clear objective: focus on deaf or hard of hearing people. Thanks to the iPhone’s vibration system, iOS is able to analyze the songs played and reproduce a series of vibrations that accompany the music in terms of rhythm and intensity.
“Haptic music” will also work with third-party apps
A priori is available on Apple Music, Apple Music Classical and Shazambut it is expected that it will eventually reach third-party applications as well. The only requirement is that the iPhone is connected to the Internet, either via Wi-Fi or via the mobile data network. In any case, Apple is already taking advantage of this with new playlists on its main platform, as can be seen with ‘Haptic Hits’, ‘Haptic Basses’ and ‘Haptic Vibrations’.
HAS enable this function you just have to go Settings > Accessibility > Vibrations with music and enable the corresponding option. You will also see the list of apps installed on your iPhone that support this feature.
The Unknown Secondary Function: Cleaning the iPhone
No, enabling this option won’t magically clean your iPhone. And in fact, the chassis itself won’t be cleaned. What we mean is that Thanks to vibrations, dust can be expelled from the speakers. It may not be the best remedy and it will also depend on the song played and therefore the vibration, but it can be useful.
Recently, a video went viral promising to expel water from the iPhone simply by playing it. This was not true, or at least not entirely. This feature will not work for this either. However, it is something to consider when small stones get stuck in the speakers. All you have to do is play a song with a lot of rhythm and let the vibration work its magic.
