It’s no secret that I love turn-based strategy games. If you look back, you can find mentions of my writing like Warbits or Battle for Polytopia. If you like the latter, you’re in luck, because its developers have launched a very interesting update that can profoundly change the games.
What was missing to look like Age of Empires: diplomacy
What’s new is that the tree of technologies you can research has grown, adding Strategy and Diplomacy. With these we can establish alliances between other civilizations on the map in the style of Age of Empiresalso being able to establish economic relations with these tribes through an embassy that you can build in their capital.
A civilization that has allied with you cannot attack you (and you cannot attack it), although it can break the peace accord if you attack one of its other allies. If this happens, you have a turn to prepare your cities for the impending war. And the ending of a domination game will stay the same, so if everyone is an ally, someone ends up breaking that alliance sooner or later (it could be you) until all that’s left is only one tribe alive.
We also have a new unit called “Cloak”, invisible to the enemy until you are next to them or attack. If you attack around a city, several units of your tribe appear and form a rebellion around the enemy. This forces you to always be prepared in your cities, because suddenly a sabotage of this new unit can steal them from you in very few turns.
The funny thing is that now the objective is no longer to defeat the rest of the adversaries: now, if you wish, you can establish alliances and collaborate with other civilizations to defeat common enemies. The game thus reaches a new dimension and a new challenge. the update is freealthough if we want to play with all the tribes we will have to pay for each of them.
