This happens to many people: if we use our cell phone while traveling by car, on a bus or on the subway, we can feel dizzy and even nauseated. This is a problem I’ve suffered from all my life, or at least since I had a cell phone, and Apple seems to have the solution.
And with the update to iOS 18 also came a very interesting new feature, an “anti-sickness” mode which helps fight against dizziness and nausea when traveling by car. I tested it and it works well enough to be clear on one thing: I hope Google implements it natively on Android.
This is the iOS 18 feature that prevents motion sickness when using your cell phone in the car. Since I tried it I need it on my Android
The feeling of dizziness when using the cell phone while traveling by car or bus is due to sensory conflict that occurs between what we see and what our body feels. In other words, the problem occurs because our gaze is fixed on a static, nearby point, while our body senses the movement of the vehicle.
This is something that doesn’t affect everyone, but it’s a problem for many users who are trying to respond to certain emails or work while traveling in a car as a passenger, for example.
The solution that Apple implemented in iOS 18 is to add a series of Animated black dots that move across the screen using the cell phone in the car. The points move in the opposite direction to the car; For example, if the car turns to the right, the points will move to the left, simulating the same thing our body feels.
The movement of the points, in a way, fool our brain and prevents us from feeling dizzy.
This function is part of the Accessibility optionsand it’s available on iPhone and iPad, making it easy to use when traveling by car.
Due to my work and as I am passionate about technology (and mobile phones), I constantly use both platforms and try the latest versions of Android and iOS, although I clearly know what my preferred system is and the one I use the most in my daily life: Android.
However, even though I prefer Android, I also recognize when Apple integrates a function or new functionality into the iPhone that I find so useful that I would like to have it on my daily use mobile phone, which works with the system of Google. Anti-sickness mode is one of those features I envyand I hope Google takes note and includes it in Android 16, or at least manufacturers like Samsung and Xiaomi integrate a similar function into their Android, One UI and HyperOS customization layers.
