There are files that you save to save and others that mark your memory. A trip my kids took to the zoo and dozens of catches thrown by their proud grandparents. The typical parent group where camp counselors upload videos of the activities. The idem where the next end-of-year trip is discussed. Memories that my mother collected and digitized. Demos of a band’s songs were first filtered for me. Talks with the dentist or talks with my brother who, just kidding, I really like. WhatsApp is piling memes next to digital fragments we’d like to keep forever.
Digital minimalism is not my thing, I’m more of a digital diogen. So you can imagine what it was like to switch to iOS after 10 years on Android, which I decided to do last year. What I couldn’t imagine was that the process was so easy and intuitive.
How to Transfer All WhatsApp Data from Android to iOS
And this process could not have gone better than expected. AND without needing to make a backup or having to save backup copies in Google Drive, Dropbox or iCloud. I haven’t lost anything, except for a small inconvenience: the installed applications were not synchronized, so I took the opportunity to purge and choose the ones that would interest me the most in this new stage with iOS.
Attached to this go to the settings of your android mobile and in the section ‘accounts‘ forces synchronization, so that the last saved backup is as recent as possible. You can also do it in WhatsApp, so that the cloud copy you access contains all the latest chats and conversations.
In order to avoid incompatibilities, it is important to point out that Android and iOS devices must be updated to the latest possible version. WhatsApp must also be installed on its latest iteration. This is something you can check by accessing the latest version
The app in question is called “Move to iOS” and the process is as simple as the following:
- Synchronize the WiFi network between the two devices, verifying that both are connected to the same network name.
- Download and install the app’Switch to iOS‘ in your Android device.
- Open the app and select the iPhone device you want to export your data to. Your IP will appear, you just have to select it and click on accept.
- Now choose the files you are going to transfer. As far as I’m concerned, I chose everything :tAll camera roll photos, all saved chats and messages, contacts and calendar reminders and WhatsApp in full.
- You can also choose the individual files or folders that interest you the most, such as exclusively exporting gifs or videos in .MP4 format from your Android mobile to your iPhone.
- Once chosen, press ‘Continue‘ and also accept the changes on your iPhone, which will start receiving files.
This is a slow transfer, so it is very important that none of the devices run out of battery. If necessary, keep both terminals connected to power while transferring data, as the waiting time will depend on the amount of data to be exported. In my case they were nearly 40 GB which took 39 minutes to syncusing 300 Mbps 5G WiFi connectivity.
How to Export WhatsApp Chats from iOS to Android
On the other hand, once I was able to verify that everything had been exported correctly, I wanted to check how exporting chats from WhatsApp Messenger worked on iOS, in case I needed to switch back to Android at the future. The process is also simple, follow these steps:
- Enter a WhatsApp messenger.
- Play on the wheel of ‘Setting‘, in the lower right corner.
- Now press the section ‘Cats‘
- You will see a new option to export chats, in addition to the ‘move cats to android‘. The first option is to export chats between iOS devices, the second to dump to an Android mobile.
- Choose the one that suits your needs and that’s it. It’s a faster process and you can choose to save just the text or also the attachments. Hope this works for you as it helped me.
