One of the features that makes Android special is the number of options the operating system offers. regarding personalization. We can change the appearance of icons, their shape, position and number on the screen, use widgets and even change the entire appearance of the interface using Launchers.
One UI, the custom Android layer that Samsung uses on its Galaxy devices, also offers many possibilities for personalize the experience and interface. In the case of notifications, there are several hidden ways to modify your lookand these are the ones I recommend.
How to add a custom style to notifications: natively and by installing an app
The One UI settings menu is full of options, some more hidden than others. These allow us to personalize the interface and user experience, controlling every aspect of the mobile as we wish, and we can even automate many of the things that our Samsung Galaxy does.
Generally, when receiving a notification, we can choose between a more subtle alert and a more detailed alert. This means that when we receive a WhatsApp message, for example, we will see a notification appear at the top of the screen with a preview of the message. However, we can select among other ways to see this notification.
- Let’s go to the menu Settings then to the section Notifications
- We continue Pop-up notification style
- Then we select Edge Lighting Style
- Next we choose the style we want for the notifications
This will add an effect when receiving a notification. We can choose between options such as lighting the edges of the mobile screen in different colors, or effects with shapes including bubbles, hearts and more. There are several options and you can even choose the color of notifications and the duration, from the “Advanced” tab.
These are the options available natively in One UI, however, there are other alternatives to customize the appearance of notifications if we take advantage of one of the best apps available for Samsung Galaxy devices.
This is Good Lock, an application that is full of options to add functions to the Samsung Galaxy, and which also has more customization options. We can download Good Lock from the Galaxy Store app storethen we follow these steps:
- We access the God Lock application then the tab Make up
- We are looking for the module called Edge lighting+ and we install it
- Then we enter this module and we activate it
- Next we activate the option Define a custom style and then we press it
We will find here many effects to personalize notifications, these will appear floating above the screen. There are stars, clouds, drops, an alert symbol and much more. You can also choose to change the color.
In the Advanced tab we have several options to customize the effect we choose: we can change its size, choose how long the alert will appear on the screen
Finally, on the main screen of the Edge Lighting+ module we have two very interesting options: the first, “Show app icon instead of custom style image“, allows you to configure the same icon of the application that received the notification as an alert. For example, in the previous image we can see how the screen fills with the WhatsApp icon when receiving a message.
The second option is even more interesting and useful, since it allows you to use these fun effects for notifications but in a less intrusive way. Acting”Only available when screen is off“These effects will only appear if the mobile screen is turned off, that is, these alerts will not invade us when we are using the mobile, but when it is at rest with the screen off.
