Although we can use a cable to copy photos, videos and any file from our cell phone to a computer, there is nothing more simple and convenient than transferring files between our devices wireless. Unfortunately, for those of us who use an Android smartphone and a Mac, it’s not that simple.
Google has developed Quick share (formerly Nearby) to let you wirelessly transfer files between Android devices and Windows PCs, but we Mac users still have to use alternative methods or a cable. Fortunately, it appears that Google is working to bring Quick Share to Apple products, according to the app’s code.
Google would bring Quick Share to iOS and macOS, and that’s great news
Quicks Share is, in practice, Android AirDrop. Although originally called Nearby, Google adopted the name Quick Share which Samsung used as a system for transferring files between Android devices, and also offers a Windows application. The result is that it is very simple to share files without losing quality between these devices.
If we talk about computers, Windows has recently included greater integration with Android devices directly in its File Explorer, so today it is easier than ever to transfer files between Android and PC. However, in the case of Mac and Android, we don’t have an official and convenient way to transfer files wirelessly.
A comment on the Google Nearby repository on GiyHub, however, reveals that this could change very soon. A Google engineer left a comment in the repository referencing device names when using Quick Share, including Apple devices.
“For iOS and macOS, the device name is already localized and generally works fine with Quick Share (e.g. “MacBook Pro by Niko”), so let’s avoid using the unlocalized account name.”
For now, Google has not officially announced the arrival of Quick Share on iOS and macOS, as mentioned in this engineer’s comment, discovered on GitHub by Android Authority.
However, it is a clear indicator that Quick Share reportedly on its way to Apple deviceswhich will undoubtedly make life easier not only for those of us who use Android and Mac, but also to share files more efficiently and conveniently with iPhone users. Hopefully, the Quick Share app will be integrated into Apple products sooner rather than later.
