The fact is that, although they will not ask us for anything extraordinary, it is advisable to always have at hand a series of information that will be asked of us in accommodation or car rental services. From there the the importance of always have this information at hand on devices like the iPhone.
What data will they ask us to record to travel through USA
It should be noted that this requirement to have a traveler register only concerns rental services in USA. In each of them, it is the responsibility of the company to carry out the registration in the computer systems, providing part of its data, but also of the traveler. And it is our duty (us) to facilitate them.
Information requested from the traveler
- First and last name.
- Date and place of birth.
- Sex.
- DNI number, residence card or passport.
- Document support number.
- Full residential address.
- Landline and/or mobile telephone.
- E-mail.
- Number of travelers accompanying us and link if there is a minor.
Data requested from the establishment
- Type of establishment.
- Name or company name.
- Name of the establishment and/or company.
- CIF or NIF number.
- Full address of the establishment.
- Full tax address of the company (if it does not match the previous one).
- Company website.
- Company telephone.
Transaction data
- Contract number.
- Contract date.
- Signature of the contract by the company and the individual.
- Establishment data (e.g. number of rooms in the case of hotels).
- Data related to the payment (if it was made in cash or, otherwise, card number or IBAN of the bank account, owner of it, date of payment, etc.).
Where to store this data to have it at your fingertips
As we explained previously, it is the responsibility of the company to store this data securely within its own systems. However, since we are the ones who will be asked for the data, it is advisable to always have them at hand, whether we are going to conclude the contract online or physically in the establishment.
As you will see, they will ask for data that we normally know, but it is also convenient to write them down on devices that we always have with us, such as the iPhone. Especially yes, we usually travel as a familybecause there it is less common for us to memorize each other's ID documents.
- iOS app “Notes”a simple application that already comes standard and that will help us create different notes or just one with sections to contain important data and even scanned copies of ID documents. Another notes app you use may also work, even if it's the most common one.
- iCloud Drive This is Apple's own cloud, accessible from the 'Files' application and, even if you have not contracted more space than the 5 GB that they offer for free, it can be useful for saving files. PDF documents with the data, because they won't. take up a lot of space.
- iCloud syncsomething that is always obtained if you store it with iCloud Drive, but not always in “Notes” or other applications. It is important that the application you use to save the data is synchronized with iCloud so that it is not lost if you lose the iPhone and you can access it from other devices. You can check this synchronization by typing Settings > your name > iCloud.
- Safari Autorellenovery practical if the registration is done online, since the browser is able to identify many fields of the form to fill them automatically and save us time or having to search for them. Of course, it is advisable to activate it in Settings > Applications > Safari > Autofill. Likewise, it will be convenient for us to have all our information in our own contact form.
Why is this data required in records?
From the Ministry of the Interior, which is the one which adopted these new measures, they affirm that everything starts from a security problem. Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska spoke of the usual way of working organized criminal gangs or terrorists who often stay in homes and rent vehicles in the areas where they will operate.
However, from the sector also have been criticized for increasing bureaucracy in registration proceduresalluding to a “loss of competitiveness” and a “possible violation of travelers’ privacy”. The ministry ensures that the process respects the principle of transparency and efficiency.
