I'm a lover mechanical keys, I see it. Several times have passed into my hands (literally) and I currently have one completely custom made and made to my liking. Spending hours a day writing, the truth is that it is one of the best investments I have made. Problem? It no longer works. Machine keyboards are not well integrated with Apple products and their carrying. This is something fortunately I have been able to solve since I got it NuType F1.
For the past few weeks I've been exploring a NuPhy's new virtual machine keyboard. NuType F1 The new keyboard funded through the Kickstarter financial platform. The project far exceeded its funding goal and is already in production to deliver the first units soon. I am not surprised that this campaign was a success, all its promise is realized.
Machine-made keyboard sublime
Jumping through the mechanical buttons is not just for me. Have you been many benefits for people who spend a lot of time in front of computer writing. In Paris we have talked more than once about them completely. However, you love them or you hate them. The main problem is they have their own sound and overall product size. They are almost at odds with the keyboards made by Apple over the last decade. Don't get me wrong, I love Apple's smaller keys like the Magic Mac Keyboard or the Smart Keyboard Folio for the iPad. But when I use a machine-made keyboard I just get comfort and speed typing.
What are its benefits to being special? It's hard to explain. Simply you notice that you write beautifully and your fingers don't care. This is because the buttons have too much movement and therefore the impact is low. And electronic (though sensitive) machines give you feedback when you press the key and "notes" of the key being activated. This answer is in keeping with the sound of these keyboards. Ultimately, each user becomes more comfortable with the keyboard or the other, but the general rule is that mechanics provide additional typing.
However, as we have shown, the machine keys are big, big and often with strings and they are of great size to use them in the material world and minimalist as of now with Apple in particular. I have a working keyboard keyboard for years and have been using it regularly with the iMac. The problem is that it runs on a cord so it's not the easiest thing to use an iPad when I want to be my primary computer. I basically had to keep it in the cupboard for many months.
This is something I can solve with the new NuType F1, that is basically a machine-made keyboard designed and tailored to current needs and not the technology of more than a decade ago. This means reducing its size as much as possible, adding Bluetooth connectivity and other technologies and benefits. What was the result? An active iPad keyboard (and other devices) is perfect. And I thought pills they would end the era of mechanical locks.
Benefits of NuType
There are a few things I liked about this keyboard layout. There are a lot of iPad keys out there, small machines too, but they do add a lot of features, the fact is I couldn't find one. There are some of them:
- Added: Keyboard size is exactly the same as Apple's keyboard. It's complicated (traditionally known as 60%), because it removes a numeric keypad and has a 64-key. As for its size, it is also smaller than what we usually find on this type of keyboard. The manufacturer claims up to 40% less, this is because it removes part of the keys to reduce its size but not its movement.
- Machine keys: The keyboard is used, as it is repeated in satiety, but if there are many other features it has, it can be lost. It has an internal switch (used for buttons) Kaihua Choc Low Profile Mechan switch. It can be purchased from three different profiles depending on how quiet or loud it is. Personally I have tried the unit with White switchch, which sounds great, I love the sound, but not everyone, so there's a chance to pick two quiet models.
- Made from aluminum body: The main body of the keyboard is aluminum. On the other hand it has a silicone base (we'll see later that) and plastic keys. It can be purchased in black or white. One of the things that doesn't satisfy me with the keyboard correctly is that the buttons are made of plastic. I understand that it's true that it has less weight and can be the back keys, the problem is that due to the cutting of the keys for most movement the plastic pieces are tied to the keyboard slightly. This gives the impression that they can be started or broken at any time. Though not possible. And I can't think of a better solution, everything has to be said.
- Button layout as in Apple's keyboard: The keyboard as we have shown the size of Apple's keyboards, is not random. Made for this purpose so the buttons are compatible with Apple's keyboards. The result? From day one you know how to use the keyboard without looking at the buttons, because they all have the same layout and size as Apple's regular keyboards. There are some minor modifications such as the size of the arrow keys, but come on, it's usually a keyboard that makes you "familiar" and requires no further reading. And yes, we have keys like Command or Task. Does it hit her? It's a global arrangement and not in Spanish with characters like & # 39; ñ & # 39; But this is not uncommon for third-party keyboards.
- More Bluetooth communication: The keyboard as we've seen, connects to iPad or other computers via Bluetooth. But if for some reason you want to use a cable and you can, it works with a USB-C cable (it comes with two wires, one has USB-C to USB-C and the other has USB-Ca USB-A) and does that even when -USB iPad To return to Bluetooth, you can easily connect up to three devices at a time and press the keyboard shortcut to switch to another.
- Battery and USB-C battery charging: Inside the keyboard we find a 1,200 mAh battery, which is enough for us to use for good time. The same USB-C connector mentioned above is used for charging.
- Can be changed to most computers: Being a Bluetooth and USB-C keyboard we can connect it to any computer. But there was another feature I liked, and it might have stuck to laptops. As I pointed out, it has a silicone base, this base has some molding material so we can put it on top of the MacBook for example and get repaired. This is great for use with Apple laptops and has better keyboard and laptop compatibility. Another detail is that with the iPad you can use the case that brings the keyboard, this case becomes a booth and we can place an iPad or another tablet either smartphone.
Beautiful lights
The headlights on the back of the buttons I wanted to leave are at the end and in the opposite direction because they are appropriate. You see, I'm not a keyboard lover the gamer it is full of lights that look like a Christmas tree or something coming up. But that's it it is impossible to deny that it is passing when you try the NuType F1 keyboard has RGB lights on each key, so each one can literally light up any color.

And many different effects and important behaviors with its lamps You can also configure different light variants and receive lighting responses when preparing specific keyboard details. All of this is done from the keyboard itself, not using any kind of application or weird stuff.
I counted a total of 20 different light effects. We can configure for example that the buttons light when we press one, or close the one we pressed. You can also configure the animation to mimic the water and emit light waves that we press on. Or that it simply flashes and changes between different colors and locations. Or if you're looking for something more familiar, all the light-colored buttons are the same color as the traditional keyboard that has been restored.
Here are four videos showing four different effects on the keyboard:
NuType F1 keyboard
All of these results will seem silly, and the fact is that they are a small idea. But that's it it's good that after working long hours you are good A little fun. My favorite way is that all the buttons are illuminated in different colors and if you press one, it will turn off sometimes to unlock again in another color.
NuType F1 from NuPhy, worth it?
The NuType F1 keyboard will be sold commercially the estimated value of 149 euros. With this price of being a keyboard used it's already worth it. That is, keyboards (if they are mechanical and precise) are not unreasonable, they have high prices for complexity and the processes they use. But that in this case is more, it's Bluetooth, the compact, has backlight, which connects to several devices at the same time … When I first heard about it I estimated the value of over 200 euros.
Is there something wrong with her? Of course, no keyboard is right. As I said, I'm not sure the buttons are made of plastic with the feeling that they would be set free. I would like the subtraction key to be a bit larger (leaving a blank hole in the corner). Or that there is the Spanish version, although this is not really a problem since iOS and macOs understand the keyboard as a Spanish version when we configure it and ignore the printed characters in each character. But little details of the original version. Similar to the escape button for example, in the unit I tried it does not appear and is activated by pressing the Fn + key in the upper left corner where Esc should. But the last unit that goes on sale has it.
I feel that this keyboard will suit me for a long time. Right now I have lived a "nomadic" life that does not allow me to always work in the same place on a stable team such as a desktop iMac. Being able to type again with the comfort of a working keyboard anywhere without difficulty … is excellent. If you are looking for a good keyboard for your iPad, MacBook or Mac because you spend the day typing … the NuType F1 is the best external keyboard I can currently recommend.
