Virtual assistants have been available on our mobile phones for many years, and with the recent rise of artificial intelligence on our devices, they have only gotten better. However, there are still many people who don't use these assistants much, and I count myself among them. Using a physical button to quickly access the assistant doesn't make much sense in this case.
My Xiaomi phone has a shortcut to activate Google Assistant or Gemini by pressing the power button, which is inconvenient. In my case, I usually activate it by mistake constantlybut luckily there is a very easy way to avoid it.
How to disable the shortcut to activate Gemini or Google Assistant with the power button in HyperOS
This can be annoying not only for people who barely use the virtual assistant of our mobile phone, but also for those who use it constantly. After all, it is not necessary to use this physical button to activate Gemini Live, we can use other shortcuts, like the classic “Ok Google” using voiceor even using a gesture on the screen.
Fortunately, HyperOS is not only packed with very useful features, but it also gives us multiple tools and options for personalize user experience. Among these options, this allows us to choose exactly what action we want the power button to perform.
We can disable this shortcut by following a few stepsdirectly in the mobile settings menu and without installing anything.
- We go to the Settings menu of the mobile and access the sectionAdditional settings'
- Then click on 'Gesture shortcuts'
- We access the first option on the next screen, called “Start Google Assistant”
- Finally, we deactivate the option 'Hold the power button for 0.5 seconds
And there you have it, from now on my Xiaomi mobile will no longer accidentally activate the Google Assistant. I can lock the screen and restart or turn off the phone without worrying about Gemini jumping by mistake. As I mentioned a few lines ago, I can still continue using the virtual assistant on my mobile, I just need to use one of the alternative methods that allow me to invoke it voluntarily, and not accidentally .
