Screens take up most of our day!
One of the functions of the iPhone allows us to see how many hours of our day we spend in the different applications. If you’ve ever tried it and wondered if your intake is the same as others, a recent study revealed the answer and it might surprise you.
Research by Electronics Hub has revealed the average usage time from 45 countries facing devices screen such as smartphones, tablets and computers, compared to your hours of sleep. To do this, they analyzed the information provided by various sources, including Semrush and SimilarWeb.
Addicted to screens?
According to a study in 1843 magazine, the average person is awake between 16.5 and 17.5 hours a day, not counting sleep. However, when it comes to screen time, Research indicates that some people spend 40% of their day, or 6 hours and 37 minutes, in front of a computer or mobile device.
The results shed light on consumer trends in countries on different continents. In this list, USA does not even appear in the first places. In the country, users spend barely 35% of their day in front of smartphone screens, thus maintaining the average for most European countries.
According to the report, in South Africa, they spend nearly three-fifths (58.2%) of their day in front of a screen, the most of all nations. At home, they are not assiduous about tips for disengaging from social networks, since it is in this type of app that they spend 22.5% of their days.
In Asia, Filipinos are the most enthusiastic mobile users with the highest digital addiction rate on the continent at 29%. The Philippines has around 69 million smartphone users, one of the largest in the world, according to market data from Newzoo.
While in japan, despite its technological culture, citizens have the lowest rates of use of electronic devices in the world, with only 21.7% of their time spent looking at screens. In 2020, Kagawa Prefecture became the first Japanese region to pass a legal ordinance limiting screen time to combat growing video game addiction.
In major South American countries, more than half the day is spent staring at screens, Brazil is the country where the highest amount of time is recorded on devices, with 56.6% of his time awake. This exceeds the percentage recorded in Argentina (53.8%), Colombia (53.2%) and Chile (51.6%).
In this country, teenagers spend the most time in front of screens. According to a study by the Brazilian newspaper Jornal de Pediatria, 70% of young people aged 10 to 19 spend more than two hours a day in front of electronic devices.
Computers and video games
The report also assessed the time spent in front of computers and according to the results South Africa, Russia and Colombia have the highest PC screen time rates. South Africans (26.7%) spend their time in front of their computer screen, closely followed by Russians who spend 25.9% of their day there. While Colombia is the largest representative of Latin America with a screen time of 24.7%.
Finally, the report highlighted the countries with the most video game users. Saudi Arabia at 11.5% and Thailand at 10.3% have the highest screen time rates for video games in the world. Saudi Arabia has embraced the game and is looking to become an esports hub, and Thailand leads one of the biggest video game markets in Asia, with 250 million users.
