A new beta version of iOS has just been released. This is the first beta of iOS 16, the next operating system that will arrive on the iPhone next fall. Its new features include a new personalized lock screen and easy-to-remove messages.
If you’ve made it this far, you’re probably part of one of the Software Apple beta and you have already installed iOS beta on your iPhone. We also assume that after weighing the pros and cons, you have realized that this beta is not for you.
Beta versions of iOS and any other operating system may include Bags and bugs that you prefer to remove from your device. Maybe you’re backing off because you’ve already used the beta for what you wanted and don’t need it anymore.
Whatever the reason, here’s how to uninstall iOS beta from your iPhone (in this case, iOS 16 beta).
How to Leave the iOS Beta Program
The first step to stop the beta from installing on your iPhone is to directly delete your beta profile from the Apple program. This will prevent you from receiving future beta updates on your device.
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Go to “Settings” on your iPhone and tap on “General”.
2. Next, find the “VPN and device management” option and tap on it.
3. Now you will see your profile Software Beta iOS.
4. Just tap “Delete Profile” to get rid of your iOS beta profile.
5. Finally, restart your iPhone to save the changes.
Once you complete these steps, you will only have removed your beta profile from the iPhone and will not receive any future betas, but you will not have removed the iOS beta you had already installed.
If you are a developer, we recommend that you follow the process described in the next section. In case you have installed a public beta version, it will be enough to install the following iOS update on your iPhone. We explain it to you in the last section.
How to Remove an iOS Beta from iPhone
As we said, those who have installed a developer beta have the option to get rid of it immediately. To do this, you will need to reset the iPhone and retrieve a saved backup.
Here is the step by step:
1. Check that the latest version of macOS is installed on your Mac. Alternatively, you should also use the latest version of iTunes.
2. Next, connect your iPhone to the computer using a compatible cable.
3. Put the iPhone into recovery mode. How to do this depends on the model you have, but if you were able to install the iOS 16 beta, you have an iPhone 8 or later.
In these cases, the process is always the same. First, quickly press and release the volume up button. Second, repeat the same step but with the volume down button. Finally, press and hold the side button until the recovery mode screen lights up.
4. Now wait for the “Restore” option to appear and click on it. You will have erased the entire device and the latest non-beta version of iOS will be automatically installed.
5. Wait for the restore to complete. You may need to enter your Apple ID and password.
6. Finally, and only if you wish, you can recover the device as it was before the beta was installed by setting up the iPhone from a backup you archived.
How to reinstall iOS 15 (or another previous version)
This step is especially important for those who installed a public beta and only deleted their beta profile from the iPhone. It’s time to reinstall an official version, whether it’s iOS 15 or a previous update.
To install the latest official version of iOS, you will have to wait for an alert that a new update is available. To check it, you will have to go to the ‘Settings’, then ‘General’ and ‘Software update’.
What if there is no update available? In this case, you have two options: either restore your device and configure it with a previous backup, or choose to make a demote in you iPhone.
Do a demote it means downgrading to a previous version of iOS. This is possible thanks to the ipsw.me web files. You will need to select the exact model of iPhone you have, download the version of iOS you want.
Next, you will need to put your iPhone into recovery mode (see previous section), click “Restore” and select the ipsw.me file. Tap “Restore” again to confirm the changes and install a previous version of iOS on your iPhone.
