So as not to miss any details, you can consult all the news about iOS 18 here. As the final version arrives, let’s remember that the first beta version for developers is currently ready to download, It’s time to analyze the adoption rate of iOS 17. Apple itself reported that it is installed on 77% of devices that support it. Is this a good or bad number at this point?
Comparison of adoption rates between iOS 17 and iOS 16 in June 2024 and 2023
From the Apple Developer website, those from Cupertino revealed that their latest stable operating system has an adoption figure of 77%. Interestingly, it is lower than the adoption rate of iOS 16 over the same period. iOS 16 was installed on 81% of devices as of June 2023.
There is a number that is also very good, Apple indicates that in iPhones introduced in the last 4 years the figure is 86%. It is still low compared to the same period on iOS 16, which reached 90%. The figures shared by Apple are as follows:
iPhone in the last 4 years
- iOS 17: 86%
- iOS 16: 11%
- Previous versions: 3%
All iPhones
- iOS 17: 77%
- iOS 16: 14%
- Previous versions: 9%.
What about adoption of iPadOS 17?
These numbers are useful for developers, especially because of the compatibility their applications must support. and for us, as users, it is good to know how accepted an operating system is. Those of us with old devices wonder a lot about whether it’s a good idea to update year after year due to the degradation our iPhones suffer from.
As for the iPad, the numbers are similar. As for iPads from the last 4 years, the figure is the same while in all iPads there is a decrease compared to iPhones with iOS 17.
iPad in the last 4 years
- iPadOS 17: 86%
- iPadOS 16: 15%
- Previous versions: 8%
All iPads
- iPadOS 17: 68%
- iPadOS 16: 17%
- Previous versions: 15%
It should be noted that the percentage of versions prior to iPadOS 16 is 15%.. This means that there are several iPads among users that are no longer supported and remain in daily use.
It will be very important to see early adoption numbers when iOS 18 is released to the public and the first downloads take place.. For everything presented, in addition to Apple Intelligence, it will be interesting to see when the highest adoption percentage will be reached. It must be taken into account that iOS 16 brought a change with the new lock screen on the iPhone, this made the update more attractive.
iOS 18 can break many records for Apple, not just in terms of adoption. By Apple Intelligence, Older iPhone users would be tempted to upgrade to at least an iPhone 15 Pro or buy moreto the new iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.
