Apple will not store any data on its servers
Apple continues to prepare everything for the reveal of its big news in artificial intelligence in iOS 18 during the main event of the WWDC conference which will take place on June 10, 2024. Apple’s AI will debut with great news for users: it will work on the iPhone itself.
When we say that the artificial intelligence features will work on the iPhone itself – of course, they won’t work on any other iPhone – we mean that the AI system will work locally. Without counting on the cloud or Apple servers. It’s privacy.
Until now, we’ve only seen rumors about AI running locally on the iPhone. But now the news has been confirmed by Mark Gurman in his weekly Bloomberg newsletter.
iOS 18 will run artificial intelligence locally
As the world eagerly awaits iOS 18’s welcome AI, it appears that “the first wave of AI features” will work entirely on the device.
“This means there will be no cloud processing component for the company’s language model; the software will run the new features.”
Apple’s goal is clear: to deliver AI innovations without compromising the privacy of its users. An area to which the company has paid a lot of attention in recent years.
However, Apple will most likely offer some AI features in a cloud-based system in the future.. Especially since not all iPhone models will have enough performance to run all the AI features. Additionally, Apple is rumored to be building hundreds of servers for AI.
Apple is betting a lot on iOS 18 AI
Apple recently introduced ReALM, its own AI model that can understand the context of visual elements on a screen and produce more natural interactions with a voice assistant. The company also introduced Ferret-UI, an AI system specifically designed to improve Siri’s proactivity.
Apple is in negotiations with Google to integrate Gemini into iOS 18, but has also done the same with other companies such as OpenAI Yes Baidu. Furthermore, the Californian company has also acquired numerous startups linked to artificial intelligence.
New iOS 18 AI Features Coming Spotlight, Siri, Safari, Shortcuts, Apple Music, Health, Messages and the iWork office suite with Numbers, Pages and Keynote. As we predicted, Apple’s AI will be announced at WWDC in 2024.
