iOS 18 Beta 5 Arrives with Major New Features in Safari

iOS 18 BETA 5

Apple has released the fifth beta version of iOS 18, currently reserved for developers, with the surprise inclusion of Safari’s “Distraction Control” and changes to the Photos app, in addition to other performance improvements and known bug fixes from previous beta releases.

Two weeks after the launch of the last Beta, Apple has just launched the fifth Beta of iOS 18. For those who are not too familiar, let’s remember that in addition to this Beta option, we currently also have the Betas of iOS 18.1, which for the moment has only released a first version, and which includes some of the features of Apple Intelligence, such as the new Siri, although for the moment only limited to the United States and to English as a language. Beta 5 of iOS 18.0 includes one of the features that we saw in the presentation of iOS 18 but that we had not been able to test until now: Distraction Control. This new feature allows you to eliminate most annoying elements such as cookies and GDPR banners, we can even eliminate ads from web pages or videos that are automatically played

. At the moment, the options of this new function are not synchronized via iCloud, so we will have to configure it manually on all our devices. And in the event that we want to eliminate the ads, they will reappear when we refresh the page, since it is not a function whose purpose is that.

Changes have also been made to the Photos app. Targeted by much criticism for its design change, Apple seems to have listened to users and removed some elements, like the carousel that appears on the top screen. Previously, you could swipe sideways to see the items you had added, now that feature has been removed, and if you want to access your memories or other items, you will have to scroll down to view them. At the moment, this beta is only available to developers, and keep in mind that if you have iOS 18.1 installed on your devices, it will not appear to be installed, as it is a different beta option.
