WWDC23 showed the world the Big Apple’s new operating systems for late 2023 and early 2024. Among them was visionOS, the operating system of the Apple Vision Pro, which completely changes the aesthetic to which we have become accustomed between iOS, iPadOS and macOS. Because, even if we don’t realize it, the visual stability between these systems and even with watchOS is very great and they share many aesthetic elements. A new rumor indicates that iOS 18 will undergo a complete overhaul, leaving behind icons with rounded corners to make way for rounded icons like in visionOS. Will we finally see this redesign in iOS 18?
Goodbye to icons with rounded corners? : the possible overhaul of iOS 18
As you can see in the image you have at the top of the article, the visionOS springboard includes all the glasses applications but with one difference compared to iOS and iPadOS: The icons are not squares with rounded corners, but completely round, in true Android style. This is something strange for those of us who have been working with iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and macOS for years because it gives greater insight Short icons. However, it is just as useful.
A new rumor indicates that Apple is working on a in-depth overhaul of iOS 18, even if many other analyzes suggest that no, everything will remain as before. However, this rumor joins Mark Gurman’s publication announcing that iOS 18 will be the biggest update in history. Maybe A design change of the entire operating system will help achieve this.

Some of the things we see in visionOS are also hidden in iOS. For example, when we are in the Messages app and we want to send or launch an app widget, we click on the ‘+’ icon and a list is displayed with rounded shape icons, like in visionOS, and the the background becomes blurry. This aesthetic is taken from visionOS and could be the prelude to iOS 18.
Throughout the article we have placed some elements of the visionOS interface that could adapt to the possible change to iOS 18. Who knows if for Apple this big story update includes a change in the design that has been practically the same for almost 20 years or if it will focus more on artificial intelligence features… we will be able to find out in June, at WWDC24.
