Two of the biggest smartphone companies in the world are Apple and Samsung.. The first has been able to find the balance between software and hardware, as well as create an ecosystem in which its devices understand each other very well. The second is a benchmark in Android and collaborates with Google to promote this operating system and “smart” watches with Wear OS.
Every year there is a “battle” to watch which of each company’s two high-end “smart” cell phones is better, although this is somewhat subjective and subject to a wide variety of factors and needs. Do you use many Apple Bite devices or services? iPhone. Do you prefer the freedom to fully customize your device and only be able to use products from the same brand? Samsung.

Weights and measurements: The iPhone 13 and the Samsung Galaxy S22 are smartphones with very similar dimensions and weight. In the hand, you will hardly appreciate a noticeable difference between one or the other.

Filter: Although both terminals have 6.1-inch panels, the iPhone 13 has a fixed refresh rate of 60 Hz and the Samsung Galaxy S22 has an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz for maximum fluidity at the right time. It is a technology that Apple has implemented in its 13 Pro models, but which is not available in the “normal” models.

Processor, RAM and internal storage: The iPhone 13 has the A15 Bionic chip and the Samsung Galaxy S22 has the Exynos 2200. Each processor owns the brand, although the iOS 15 and A15 tandem, as in previous generations, is very neat and offers excellent performance in all aspects. Samsung is including the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in other countries outside of the EU, which is what most premium brands use. The iPhone 13 comes with 4 GB of RAM and the S22 with 8 GB. Each operating system, which we will discuss later, handles it differently. Moreover, they share two storage options (128 and 256 GB), although Apple also offers 512 GB in the case of the iPhone.

Operating system: the most differential point and which makes you opt for one device or another. iPhone 13 has iOS 15 and Samsung Galaxy S22 has Android 12 with One UI 4.1 customization layer. Each system has its unique details and it is difficult to explore all the differences. You could say there is more freedom on Android, as the device can be customized to the user’s liking with alternative launchers, icon packs, and installing apps outside of the Play Store via third-party stores. In iOS, the user is much more limited in this respect, but App Store applications are of higher quality and the feeling of security is greater.

Drums: Apple has managed to stand out this year with the autonomy of all its iPhones, it is particular for the Pro models, even if the iPhone 13 is able to last up to 19 hours per charge in video playback. iOS is very optimized and we appreciate not being able to worry about the charger until the end of the day. The Samsung Galaxy S22 is not so well off on this subject, even if the firm assures that the battery lasts all day and that the adaptive refresh rate should help.

cameras: the result of the photographs is also a matter of taste, although in the Samsung Galaxy S22 we find a telephoto camera next to the wide angle and the ultra wide angle, something that Apple reserves for its Pro models. It is true that the video stabilization on the iPhone 13 is more accomplished, and social network applications like Instagram or TikTok work better than their Android equivalents. Indeed, there is a wide variety of Android smartphones, each with specific cameras, and it is very difficult to optimize them for each mobile from Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, OnePlus, etc.

Security system: the iPhone 13 integrates Face ID, the best-known facial unlocking system on the market for smartphones (and one of the most secure). The Samsung Galaxy S22 also has face unlock, but it’s not as reliable. The good news is that this mobile also has an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the screen, so users can combine them to use one or the other depending on the situation (you are wearing sunglasses, gloves, mask, etc.).

Software updates: Apple is one of the companies that offers the most support to its devices in terms of software updates, about six years on iPhone and iPad. This allows users to keep their smartphones and tablets longer, without having to renew them due to app shutdowns. It’s the unfinished business of the vast majority of Android products, but Samsung wants to fix it and has promised four years of Android updates, so the S22, which was created with Android 12, will reach Android 16.

Others: The Samsung Galaxy S22, like a few other high-end smartphones from the brand, has DeX. It is a system that allows you to connect the terminal by cable or wirelessly to a television or monitor and obtain a Windows-like interface to work with. Use it with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and you get a really good experience in applications like web browsers, word processors, email, and even video games.
iPhone 13 or Samsung Galaxy S22, which one to buy?
Choosing between the iPhone 13 or the Samsung Galaxy S22 is very complicated because we are not talking about doing it between two Apple or Samsung mobiles, but of two different operating systems with quite a few differences. And the value of the ecosystem also comes into play, very interesting in the case of bitten apple and increasingly complete also in the case of Samsung.
But everything is simplified depending on whether you like Android or iOS more, where the rules of each platform come into play and on which you feel most comfortable. It’s not a question of price because both terminals are pretty much the same. Nor on the benefits, as both smartphones are very powerful and will receive software updates for years so they don’t need to be renewed.
