A design change is expected in the iPhone 14. A design change that involves the removal of the mini model, among other things, but also by make the Pro models thicker and with bigger cameras. At least that’s what the recently leaked CAD drawings tell us.
A thicker iPhone has several advantages
Several months ago, leaker Jon Prosser claimed that the iPhone 14 would be thick enough that its cameras wouldn’t protrude from the body of the phone. He was not talking about reducing the size of the lenses, but about an increase in body thickness.
In the CAD drawings that were leaked a few days ago, we didn’t see this change. However, in plans leaked by Max Weinbach we are seeing changes in the sizes and thicknesses of the new iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. There are small changes in various measurespointing to a model with very similar proportions to the current ones.
The new iPhone 14 Pro Max will measure 77.58 mm wide compared to 78.1 for the iPhone 13 Pro Max. In terms of height, both models would measure roughly the same. Going from the current 160.8 mm to 160.7 mm. Something that contradicts rumors that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max would be larger due to the new design of the front cameras. In thickness, we have gone from the current 7.65 mm to the 7.85 mm of the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
As in the iPhone 13, Apple expanded the size of the camera module, leaked designs indicate that we will see a further increase. First of all, there is an increase in thickness, which goes from the current 3.6 mm to the 4.17 mm of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The module itself, moreover, also increases its area by approximately 5% in each direction, increasing from 35.01 to 36.73 mm in width and from 36.24 to 38.21 mm in height.
Same changes, with adjusted proportions, they also occur in the iPhone 14 Pro, the diagram of which can be seen just above these lines. An iPhone 14 Pro that retains the same height, barely varies in width and gains a camera module of the same thickness as those of the Pro Max variant.
A renewal only for Pro models
This year seems to be the year of the iPhone Pro 14. As far as we know, the entry models, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, will keep the design that we already know from the current version. It’s true that we try to predict Apple’s plans based on plans for which we don’t know the date of publication, and that could refer to testing or early stages of development.
Taking the information we see published with some caution, many rumors and sources agree that the main This year’s spotlight and redesign will focus on models with the Pro family name. A design that varies perhaps little in proportions, but a lot on the front, where we will see, as we believe, a new notch design in the form of a line and a point.
For the moment we will have to wait a few more months to confirm all the information. Official confirmation will come from Apple Park in the fall, of course, although as the months go by and the manufacturing process progresses, the leaked information might become more concise. In any case, we will undoubtedly see some of the most interesting iPhone 14 Pro.
