Mobile device manufacturers are constantly releasing operating system updates and security patches, and it’s important to install them. I’m not just referring to the latest version of Android or, in the case of Xiaomi phones, the new and highly anticipated HyperOS 2.0, but also minor updates that include fixes for system errors.
Among these updates are also security patches which, as the name suggests, aim to resolve possible vulnerabilities and security risks. to protect our devices. But sometimes for some reason we may skip an update. Fortunately, there is a very easy way to force them, if you have a Xiaomi mobile.
How to force a system update on Xiaomi devices with MIUI and HyperOS
Has it been a long time since you received an OTA update notification on your Xiaomi? It’s possible that a fix is available and you didn’t notice it, or probably, as happened to me, you deleted the notification and completely forgot about it a system update was pending.
We have two ways to check if there is a pending update for our device, and they can be used on mobiles Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO with MIUI or HyperOS. The simplest and most direct is to go to our Settings menu and check that no new system versions are available:
- We go to the Settings menu and click on ‘About the phone‘
- If a new version is available, on this screen we will see the option ‘Update‘
However, you may need to click on the name of the operating system (HyperOS in the image above, or MIUI on a device with this system) then click on ‘Check for updates‘ to find a new version of the system available.
However, the system could tell us that “no updates available“, and in some cases this may not be the case. So we will try to force an update:
- We go to the Settings menu then click on ‘About phone’
- Following click on the operating system name (HyperOS or MIUI 14)
- Now we click on the button in the form of three points in the upper right corner
- Finally, click on ‘Download the latest package‘
If something starts to download, it’s possible that there is a pending update that, as we mentioned above, you may not have missed, or perhaps have- you deleted the notification and forgot to install this OTA. Whatever the reason, you can now download the latest version available and keep your mobile up to date.
