If you suspect that your neighbor may be stealing your WiFi, it won’t take you long to check it out. All you need is your Android phone and a free app with many years of experience, Fing.
With Fing you can easily check which devices are connected to your network, which can then determine whether they are yours or whether they are strangers. If there are connected devices that you don’t know about, it’s very possible that someone has guessed your WiFi password.
Who is here?
If your WiFi password is very easy to guess or you have not changed the default one, it is possible that a neighbor is taking advantage of your generosity, use your connection without you knowing
You can see which devices are connected to WiFi from the router, although it usually won’t help you much by only including local IP addresses. On the contrary, it is much more practical use a network scanner app like Fring.
Fing – Network Scanner
Find who is on your Wi-Fi, intruders, hidden cameras and vulnerabilities
Fring won’t find WiFi thieves on its own, but gives you the tools It’s up to you to investigate and find the suspects. It’s a free app.
The first time you open Fring after installing it, you will need to grant it location permission (it is necessary to display the WiFi name). No need to create an account: you can press I will think about it continue without her. Then you just have to press Scan current network.
Now comes the important part, as we are shown a list of all devices connected to the same network, some of them are already identified by name or type which are. This saves you half the work.
You will still have other devices called “Generic”, which Fing does not know what they are. Your task is find out what they are and identify them in Fing to be able to exclude that they do not come from the neighbor. It’s common for many of these devices – like a smart speaker – to show you the IP address they’re using in their setup. You can change the name of your devices by tapping Edit
Your task is to find out if you recognize all connected devices to your WiFi. This can happen in one of two ways: you identify them all and there are a few you can’t figure out, or there are directly named devices in the list that aren’t yours, like PCs or laptops.
If you are sure there are intruders on your WiFi, the best thing to do is to go to your router settings and change the WiFi password. If you want, you can also block access to the MAC addresses of intruder devices, although this does not prevent you from changing the WiFi password, otherwise they might continue to connect with other devices (or change the MAC address).
